It's amazing how they managed to replicate the CD-I style in this game. If I didn't know it was on purpose, I would think this game actually came out in 1995. They did a great job. In all honesty, I liked the two Zelda games with this graphic style (they weren't among my favorite games, ok, but they're nice, and they're definitely not shitty games as people describe them), so I'm happy with this game. I hope there are more sequels (or games) made like this.

You know, even if you're unfamiliar with the CD-i Zelda games, I'd like to think this game would be just as much fun, or at least entertaining, without that frame of reference. The cutscenes are endearingly cheesy, but the characters themselves are oddly compelling too. I also want to applaud the developers for actually understanding the gameplay of the CD-i games and building off of that to make an actually good (or at least decent) game, instead of just making a completely new game with some nods to those old games.

I just finished this game. I got every inventory upgrade and bought as much equpment I could afford before the final stage. 99 bombs and lampoils, 35 canteens, about 70 ropes and power stones. And I barely used any of it. I didn't need a single canteen (because when I was close to dying, i had recently passed through a door that I could continue from) and I didn't find much use for the ropes. If you want to exit the stage, you can just press start and select "save and exit to map". The only purpose of the rope is if you want to backtrack a few steps on the stage you're on.
