I saw this concert in 1981 maybe 82 when He toured with Lyle and the band at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I had bought this album just a few days before the concert, and I remember thinking that I'd never hear any music like this before. I was amazed at the compositions I loved all of the music on this album, but I have to say that I was mesmerized by AFWSFWF in it's totality, thoroughly captured by it's vibration I would lay in my bed at night and my mind would wander off into complete oblivion, all I remember was feeling really good, it felt innocent and powerful and just so many strong feelings. I bought everything I could get my hands on after that I could afford, and I couldn't afford much in those days. I traded in a lot of old rock albums to get my hands on this music. To This Day Lyle Mays is one of my favorite key board players, and I am very sad that he passed so soon RIP Lyle we were all cheated when we lost you. This Album was a break through album for my sentience in the music appreciation.

58 yrs old - grew up listening to 70's progressive and later jazz and even some new ageish type stuff - love acoustic guitar. Unbelievable this is the first time hearing this. maybe first time hearing anything from these guys. Laugh if you must but I have an extensive music library. Im shocked. blown away that the powers that be could not get their music out to me. Yeah, Im buying the CD for my car rides through the country. but how much more am i missing???? Crazy! i cant believe I found 70's music i like and never heard before.

If You are Adventurous try Mahavishnu Orchestra Visions of the Emerald Beyond, Its quite different from this music but quite different Music altogether. I agree Metheney is fantastic, Lyle Mays and Pat were quite the duo. Lyle will be missed. If you want to hear a very moving piece "Letter From Home" is One of my favorite.

So many masterpieces, but this is up there. I went to the same high school as Pat just many years later. My father was a jazz guitarist and played gigs with his brother Mike all the time. I got to meet Pat and hos family numerous times and see his HlGrammys which was really cool. So many. Lee's Summit Missouri for life! R.I.P. my father who Pat called the greatest jazz guitarist he played with. Besides himself, he was being humble. Great memories. Love.

Loved Lyle mays saw pat matheny at Cullen auditorium on the UofH campus in 81 and lived in Wichita Falls when this instrumental came out crazy how time flies oh how I wish I could go back in time

If it wasn't for the late Alan McFee and his "Eclictic Circus" I would never have heard of Pat or Lyle. Joni Mitchell was another one that pulled Pat and Jaco in on that wonderful Shadows and Light albumn. Oh to be able to go back to those days of great music.

I bought the original master on both cassette and vinyl. The cassette was for driving the cab. Harry Chapin doesn't know shit about driving cab. Pat and Lyle and me rollin' Fresh Pond Parkway east down onto Memorial Drive along the Charles River lazily corralling the last of the morning fog under the Longfellow Bridge as the sun rises over the Lechmere viaduct. Never let the ex have the last smile of the encounter.

Yes of course the original is better this is missing intro and ending its just a snippet of the main theme. Actually the intro is not to hard to play but the ending is very difficult (the synth pads with children voices in the back ground) The 38, 42, 55, 3 part is missing as well. (this is the peak to my ears) This was just a demo that I never intended to release but when Lyle died I decided to release.

This was done by me (my stage name is Trevor Spleen), over 12 years ago, I released it when Lyle died. I believe ECM removed all the illegal copies of Pat and Lyle. The ECM recordings of John Ambercombie are not on You Tube either. Well at least Blue Wolf was taken down.

@Sonic Archives: So disappointing when that beautiful juxtaposition of "As Falls Wichita Falls" and the video of the passing winter landscape from the train window was taken down. That was an inspired effort that worked on so many levels. Every time I watched it, I'd see some previously un-noticed detail. It was like reading a good short story. Nice job.
