Why? Why would your bank ask you to transfer money? Especially considering they can stop any transaction. Scammers only want 2 things, your money or your id so they can scam others with it. Also Biden doesn't want you to know there is a feature in your phone settings to filter scam calls because it will also filter telemarketers and that's tax revenue lost. I only receive calls from numbers I know.

If banks don't want to reimburse people, then they need to stop promoting Zelle. I would get emails from my bank explaining how easy it is to use Zelle and that I should use Zelle. When I sign in, there is a tab in my account to use Zelle. They are helping Zelle obtain more users. This is why regulation is important in banking. When you have gray areas like this, the scammers win, the banks aren't affected and the consumer loses.

I think customers letting themselves get suckered into using Zell frees banks of liabilities when fraud occurs. Its down and dirty.

Zelle works great when you use it legally. It's very simple, quick, and it actually works. People who use it to scam should be arrested though.

It is a great service. People just need to wake up and realize that a legitimate business will not initiate communication with you by text or email or even a phone call. Just always assume it is a scam at first and hang up on them and then go online to your own account and check it out for yourself. Never click on any links in a text or email. Just go directly to your own account the normal way you use to access your account. And don't respond to those texts or emails. I would hate to see this free service stop being free just because it is being abused by scammers and their hapless prey.

I feel bad for these people. However, anyone who gets a notice by text or email and then gives out personal info like that is duped. How is that the bank's fault??

The first clue that it is a scam is your bank calling you, like when in the history of American banking has the bank ever called you regarding a checking or savings account issue...

This is the same type of scam used everywhere. Zelle is a cash payment system and the user has to make the payment manually. These people are wrong to blame the bank. They got tricked, but they wired the money.

I don't use Zelle and never have signed up for Zelle. That makes it easy for me to identify a scam text or call. With no Zelle, no way someone could be using my Zelle. Anyway, unsubscribe to the service if you've signed up, or don't sign-up in the first place. We've managed for decades to pay other people without Zelle.

I think there should a mandatory course in high school (Just like Heath/Sex Education) except this course will teach young adults the importance of keeping their forms of identity both virtual and physical secure and how to identify potential scams or phishing texts, messages, or emails. A lot of people become puzzled when they ask how did this person know my name?, my phone number?, my address?, etc.... and there is a ton of ways that can happen with the resources that are available online or even through the dark web, but the most common way is through the every day devices we come in contact with in private and in public. So we need to make sure that we are only sending out sensitive info when we need to and only using secure devices and secure trusted websites to exchange such info.

I got bitcoin Forex Scammed Big Time. They really did me bad. Used my Credit Cards and abused them..I still owe on them. But when I finally figured it all, i made them hang around waiting for my money then I told them to take the money you stole from me and teach the naive seniors what not to do or say. How to n9t get scammed on line.

I was a trainer at Chase in their Fraud Dept. and I agree about giving personal information over the phone. However, for this scam they did not ask you for personal information. And the scammers followed the same procedures as Chase does when there's fraud on the account. They send you an email or text asking you to confirm a purchase. All you are doing is clicking yes or no and that's what the scammers did. However, the tricky part comes in when they call you and ask you to Zelle back the money that you lost. Then that should cause you to think why would I sent more money to a company that I just said that I didn't send any money to, to reverse the transaction? That's when I said this is wrong and I hung up and called Chase. They said there was no transaction on my account as the scammer described to me. You have to be really paying attention to what's being asked of you because the scammers are getting smarter and smarter.

Seems like the true scammers are the large banks that financed Zelle without affording any protections for its users. Since the banks financed its development and implementation, they should be liable for whatever shortcomings are intrinsic to the software.

Thanks for the ignorant comment of the year. How is zelle or it's owners responsible for ignorance of its customer? If you hand over your money, the bank is not at fault. They literally warn people for scams like this but the morons go ahead and do exactly what the bank warned them not to do, and then a virtuous idiot writes a comment like this.

I got one of these texts and ignored it thinking it was a scammer but it was actually my bank and someone did charge $1001 on my credit card . I saw it on my next statement and my bank reversed it .

I have my accounts set up for text message alerts, and I added their texting number to my contact's list so I always know when a legitimate alert text is coming in. And these legitimate text alerts NEVER have links to click in them. A legitimate bank would never send a link. I just go online to my own bank account and check it to see what is happening on my account.

This is the main problem. These scammers would not be able to get any money from us if we would just hang up on them. I always assume it is a scam and hang up on them. I can always go check my own account online without any help from someone on the phone with me.

There are quite a few YT Creators making their lives on trying to block those scammers and trying to retrieve funds to the affected, so there are MORE SUCKERS OUT THERE than you think...

The same thing happened to me back in October of 2021. I stopped the call right before I started to push the button. I then called Chase and they said that they have no record of me making a transaction to the company that the scammer said that I did. And I can see how you can be fooled into thinking it's the bank calling you because the scammers follow the same procedures as Chase bank does for their fraud transactions. Because I almost took the bait.

I was selling an item on Craigslist and a potential buyer sent me a very real looking cashier's check for the item and for its trucking. Then said the trucking firm wouldn't come unless I Zell'ed them the shipping money. When they insisted, I said I'd wait for the check to clear. It didn't.

The app is quite convenient and the service is great. I’ve been using it for over a decade, in one phase or another, under its new name or the old quick pay.

Banks will RARELY refund money lost during a scam or fraudulent transaction. A man used my information to purchase a plane ticket and my bank wouldn’t refund it. Couldn’t get police to do anything except for making a report, even though the man’s name and address was used to purchase the ticket. 🤷‍♀️ * I have never received a penny from that $3,600 charge.

and what "bank" and what state/province/canton? Chase is more suspect that a lot of banks, and my bank (TD) after 45 years of virtually zero issues drew down 500 from a KNOWN Amazon scam. I don't buy on Amazon, they don't HAVE my bank accounts, and even if I did, I'd segregate a credit card of low amount to make any online purchase, and that cc would NOT be related to any bank I deal with. EVen then, the fraud dept. never "closed" the file and never told me their 'findings" (It's on them) and eventually did credit my account, but if the file is not off. closed TD could grab the $$ back any time they wanted. Not impressed.

I think a scammer tried to tell me I had unauthorized charges that looked eerily familiar but they couldn't spell wells fargo right so I ignored it

My guess is that when the victim responds to the text, that tells the scammer that the phone number is probably a chase customer. So the scammer goes to zelle/chase and tries to log into the site using the phone number, which sends a PIN, and then the victim gives the PIN over. Bam money gone.

Usually they get the victim to load anyteam, ultra viewer, anydesk or other remote desktop software check for the app and if the password isn't saved tell them to open in up to verify money that was supposedly taken so they can return it then the scammer quickly transfers money. If the mark only has credit cards and they can't get them to give information to setup a Zelle then they try to get them to get gift cards since the credit card can often pull the money back while Zelle bypasses that security. 😞

This is why I use an account with very limited amount of money in it for online purchases. Even if someone were to scam me for $5000, I would know that's a scam and just say, "Pfft! Take it, I don't even have 10% of that in this account."

@@koreyb or just don’t be foolish and give out your account information for the use of Zelle. For online purchases and credit card payments this is a great or better yet brilliant strategy. That way your money’s not tied up if someone does charges an account it goes negative you put it in dispute your monies not tied up and that’s a great idea. Or, it doesn’t go through if you don’t have the overdraft protection on it. What’s not there won’t be charged either way it’s great but as far as Zelle goes, the only way that someone’s going to use yours is if you give the credentials out.

@@yvonnelives I would never give out my account information, but hacking does occur from time to time. I know because someone got my gmail user name and password from some breach and they tried to log in with it but I had second sign-in already on that account, so I got a text message from gmail which alerted me to check into it and I quickly changed my password. But my point is that eventually someone will probably get my Zelle account info from a data breach and if they do, they still won't get much money from me. I do frequently change all my passwords these days since that attempted gmail hack, just to try to reduce the chances of anyone hacking into my accounts.

I don't cross contaminate ANY of my tech., accounts, or data. I have a stand alone for my bank financials, another for all credit cards, and don't mix business with family. It seems to be paying off now. A friend was a LEGAL ADVOCATE and mixed all her accounts. ??? A coked up contractor knew where she worked, she lived alone, everything about her. When it went sideways all kinds of things happened. (AND OF COURSE, I had warned her months before. She's 55, not 15.

Folks, your bank doesn't initiate anything through calls, texts, emails. Your bank might send you a secure message and even that is rare. You should become very alert if that happens. Only you can initiate a transaction. Also, never give a code or use a code that you didn't initiate. This means the scammer did and they are asking you for the code so they can continue.

Actually not true. I have had my bank contact me over "unusual activity." They would list the transactions by date, store name, and location, and ask me to log into my account to verify. They of course did not provide a login link as I should already have it.

@@truthalonetriumphs6572 No, and neither are the texts contained in this video. In this video they are showing were a scammer is sending a message to confirm if you are doing a transaction or not. Then they trick the person into contacting them, getting them to reveal, or entering some details to make a transaction go through. It is the victim who made the initial contact for a transaction.

I was having problems with chase Bank since 2011. Chase will not give your money back if someone scam your account. I've lost 3000 and chase told me there's nothing they can do. You wanna be on the safe side, don't bank with chase.

Usually if your account has got fraudulent activity, you might get a text saying to call their customer service. That's how it should be.

Never been ripped off. I know a bank never contacts you. They have to reverse the charges. The bank didn't cover it because you gave it to them. 3:20 I was typing as I was watching. Technically they should of just said they didn't make those transactions and left it like that. That's not a lie?🤔 They technically were involved, but they were tricked.😬 So when they called the real bank and reported it they should of just said they noticed charges on their account they didn't make. Not possible. With zelle you have to login and initiate the transfer manually. Also, the bank logs your ip when you login. They can tell that the login happened from the same device you use everytime.

This is interesting because I have encountered the exact opposite experience. Chase has been overly cautious with my Zelle transactions. I authorized a Zelle transaction and not only did Chase not authorize the transaction, they blocked me out of both my chase bank accounts online. I spent the next 2-3 hours on the phone with Chase getting my access restored and getting my Zelle transaction approved.

Zelle is secure and so is Cash app. If they weren’t they wouldn’t be highly rated applications. These scams are done by people pretending to be banks and getting ignorant morons to send them money through zelle. Zelle makes it clear transactions aren’t reversible, which is why scammers target people using it. It’s not a zelle/cashapp problem.

There is nothing wrong with Zelle. I don’t know if you watched the entire video, but this video is explaining that some people have fallen a- prey to a, rudimentary; at best, con game and it just so happens that they use Zelle to pull it off. It could’ve been Western Union, or any other means. Has nothing to do with Zelle-itself-directly.

That’s why I have security protection I had the same exact text message sent to my phone and I went through all the process then my bank sent me an notification that they declined a $2500 payment but I got lucky and I was so scared I learned my lesson

Don't give banks your text number. If I get a text from a bank, I think, "they don't know my number so this isn't them". If you're gullible (it's not an insult, a lot of people are), get yourself a burner phone - it'll be worth it. Scammers use computers to dial all combinations of number in seconds hoping for that one-in-a million hit. That means there will be 10 catches per area code.

Safe practices to consider with using with callers, text, email, mail: 1) Get all the info from the caller but never give out ANY info to a caller; hang up and call the customer support number on the back of your bank card to inquire about the caller and the info discussed. 2) if it's a text, email, mail, don't click or visit links. Call the original business to inquire. If an unauthorized payment is involving your bank, call your bank customer service number ONLY on the back of your card. 3) Avoid this payment method with businesses. GOOD LUCK!

The problem is too many people never read the terms and conditions of using electronic payment systems. It very clearly states that the bank is not responsible. These are the same people who don't read car sales contracts, home sales contracts, mortgage contracts, etc. Then when something goes wrong, they go crying to the TV guy who says "CALL ME IF YOU'VE BEEN SCAMMED"

Anytime an employee reaches out to you from a company via call, they always identify themselves. CHASE texts always come from a short code (5-6 digits) beginning with the number 2.

And even when that happens I always just assume it is a scam, and then I go log into my own account online to check and see if anything has happened. I also I am signed up for all the account alerts, and I added the text number to my contacts' list so I know when a real alert text message comes to my phone.

Basically Zelle and Venmo - and wire transfers, for that matter - are not secure transactions, they lack closed-loop confirmation of the recipient and reversibility in the case of errors.

Zelle is secure, you have to initiate it and before it is sent off it tells you the name on the account you’re sending it to and ask are you certain you want to send it because it’s not reversible. Zelle is not a “third-party-outside” operation such as Venmo. Zelle is embedded through your bank at most primary financial institutions. It’s connected to your account. If there is something that happens, you can call your bank and question them and at least they can give you answers or find out answers for you, outside of you giving someone your information to rip you off, of course. Wire transfers are secure because you initiate them from your bank and they’re not gonna go somewhere unless you tell the bank to send them and you must verify the information. That’s like going to a store and purchasing peanut butter but purchasing the wrong brand and saying it’s not secure because I didn’t buy the right product. If you send the information to the wrong place that’s your fault but that doesn’t mean that the transaction is not secure. How much more secure can you get? Not really a question. ‘The name -/////is on the account you’re sending to is, are you sure you want to send this to that account, once it’s sent it is not retrievable….pretty simple for functional grownups.

I got a text on my answering machine stating my account was hacked and to call the number provided. I did not call the number. Instead I called the institution and was told that was a scam. You NEVER call the numbers they provide. Always call the original organization.

I called my bank and had the Zelle feature locked on my account. No one can access it for any reason. The bank rep I talked with admitted that Zelle is not safe to use because there are so many ways even the most intelligent customers can be tricked into giving access to scammers. The money is gone instantly, and many times it is sent out of the country.

Scams are everywhere and in places you wouldn’t think they would be I called about a used $300 refrigerator and the scammer tried to convince me to send the money and they would have the refrigerator delivered and always let a red flag fly when someone offers to pay full price without negotiating

I don't fully understand the scam. So the victim gets a text saying they authorized a payment, press no if they did not. So they press No, which alerts the scammer they have a person. Then the scammer calls them and asks for them to make a payment using Zelle. Where do they send the payment? To the person on the phone?

If I got a text like that I would just call my bank to verify it. I've never heard of a bank sending a text message to report fraud to a customer. That throws up a dozen red flags.

They do actually, but that’s if you have text message notification setup in your account and if you tried to send a large amount of money yourself and your bank stops it. That’s when they’ll send a text similar to the video to verify if it was you.

Zelle is taking a beating lately due to some people making poor decisions. What Zelle is. Means to transfer money instantly between friends and family with no fees involved. Works similarly to handing cash over, with just as much (zero) protection. What Zelle isn't. A payment for online or instore purchases, as there is no recourse for disputes that may arise after the transaction.

I got a text like that one time, it said something about a $3000 transaction that was going through. I replied back saying, "I know you're a scammer because I have never had $3000 in my account." I then followed up with a series of insults. I didn't get a reply back.

IF you get a text or an email, pretending to be a BANK. DO NOT ANSWER NEITHER ONE. IF YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE THE "TRANSACTION" CALL YOUR BANK AT THE NUMBER PROVIDED ON YOUR CARD OR YOUR SITE. DO NOT USE THE NUMBERS IN THE TEXT OR EMAIL. And, by all means, do not answer phone numbers YOU dont recognize, if its important they will leave a message.

These cases do not involve manipulation of your account to steal without your knowledge. The fraud is on the account owner who then authorized the transaction. The responsibility falls on the account owner to not allow themselves to get tricked. There’s a big difference. These folks are asking the banks be held more responsible for the actions of the account owners than they are holding themselves! I can understanding being upset and embarrassed, but banks are not responsible for the foolish actions of account owners, even if those account owners have been fooled.

Bank determined the transaction is originated by the customer because they verified through the number on file. Not the banks fault the customer stupidly gave out that verification number.

Zelle is meant for friends and family, small transactions. You should never send large amounts of money to anybody through zelle. Read the fine print, once you send it, it's basically gone.

Almost got scammed by someone who told me to use Zelle. When I contacted Zelle they could care less. Was told they do not even have an investigative unit. If someone will not take cash it is probably a scam. Always ask the person for their phone number and call them back first before sending money but DO NOT USE ZELLE.
