Sitting here watching you again, years later, wondering why I continue to want to watch you... (not a bad thing)... I collected change back in the 60's... I exchanged my allowance money for coins in my parents pockets... This was the typical scenario of child coin collecting once they got their XMAS Whitman Coin Collecting Sets back in early 50's, 60's... Mine is nothing special beyond being able to (historically anyway) open up the box of folders to see all these old coins and remembering how I found many of them. When you go through your rolls of coins it makes me remember my Dad emptying his pockets of change (he got a lot of new change each day to take home). I felt the same thing you experience going through your coin rolls as I did when I went through my Dad's pockets of change!!! Was my personal treasure hunt. Loved it then and love watching you many generations later loving the same things!!!!

My son owns a laundromat in southern Virginia. Once a month I go through his quarters when he empties his washers/dryers. Over the past two years I’ve found over 30 “W” quarters. The great thing is I don’t have to unroll or re-roll them. Just take a cupful out of a 5 gallon bucket, search through them, and throw them into another bucket! Life is good!!

That proof coin was dope and I love finding the bicentennial quarters too! I don't hunt rolls (I would love to at some point thought!) but I've found a couple nice coins: I found a W Tallgrass Prairie on the floor in a Target several years ago and earlier this year, I found two 1964 Dimes in a coinstar machine at the same time. My dad has a coin collection with some silver coins, tons of wheat pennies, some foreign too (I love finding foreign coins as well), and some miscellaneous as well. My favorite coins my dad has are a US 3 cent coin and a Polish coin, a 3 Groschen, from 1584!

The first edition of Alan Herbert's "Coin Clinic" talks about the near date/wide rim SBA. Out of the total mintage for the 79P, the Mint estimates that it struck "up to" 160,750,000 with the near date/wide rim, or about half the total mintage. The reason we don't find a lot of them is that most are still buried in the Treasury vaults. The question remains whether or not they'll have any additional value if and when those are ever released. But hey, it's still a variety though, just not an especially hard to find one, sort of similar to the 74-D DDO half dollar IMO.

One is called "Snow On The Roof" which is is a die chip that makes it look like snow on the roof of the house. And the other is "Leaky Bucket" which is a die chip on the bottom of the bucket that make it look like the water is running out of the bottom of it.

I have a 1968 penny and it has a dime strike on the rim.Idk what the edge of a dime is called that has all the little cut lines on edge of dime.Well the 1968 penny has a dime mark strike on the edge of penny.And penny is not bent.And marks are not from like plyers or vise grip teeth .A dime edge marks line up exactly with penny and you think any value to it by chance.

Ryan, my parents owned a bar, and I know it's been a long standing tradition for bar owners to mark their coins with red sharpie or paint. Then when the vendor who owns the coin-operated machines would come service the juke box (empty coins), they'd give those marked ones back to the bar without splitting the cut of the "profit" from those coins bar owners used to play music. They get put back into circulation when the marked ones went unnoticed by the vendor, or when I'd take the "house" marked quarters and put them into the games instead of jukebox 😂
@TheWinstonDoubleАй бұрын
Proof with edge lettering are sometimes struck with a 3 piece collar die. As opposed to the business strikes getting the edge lettering before or after, proofs have the edge lettering put on during striking. If the collar die doesn't break apart, the coin will get stuck because of the edge lettering locking in with the collar die. So it splits in 3 pieces like a pie. The metal on the edge of the coin flows into the gaps between the collar die pieces. That's where the line comes from. Why do it like this? Well it's so all the edge lettering faces the same position. On circulation strikes it's put on before striking (I think, it might be after) and it can face either the obverse or reverse. So if you get a proof with the edge lettering facing the wrong way, it can be an error.

@allenmuckleroy5040Ай бұрын
The lines on the rim of the proof dollars is because the collar is a 3-piece affair with the legend as part of the collar. The lines are from the gaps between the sections of the collar. On non-proof coins, the edge lettering is added in a separate process with the coin being rolled in a press to imprint the legend. On the 2007-dated coins with no edge lettering, the coins either missed the edge-lettering process completely or the pressure was insufficient to imprint the lettering.
