That's not an error coin, it's a variety, errors are one of a kind, variety coins are a few to many, errors = die caps, wrong planchets, broadstrike, off center, partial collar, brockage, double denominations, varieties = 1917 DDO, 1936, DDO, 1955, 69, 72 DDO'S, TRANSITIONAL, ( 88 reverse, wam's and cams.

Those red quarters were for arcade machines that the technicians used back in the day to see if the coin machine was operating properly, so I heard! They painted them red so they can find them in the coin bucket easily they needed to take the quarter back because they knew it was an authentic quarter.

The Red on the quarter makes it a JukeBox coin. The owner of the place marks the coins to play during down times. The jukebox owner gives them back to him or her, as a blank more or less.

The jukebox owner comes once a week to empty the jukebox and when he sees the reds, he gives them back to the owner, that way they don't have to pay for it. Bar owners usually have about 5 bucks for the jukebox for when customers aren't playing music, it doesn't just go quiet and kill the vibe lol

14:00 It's a shill, also known as a house coin. Let's say you run a laundromat, and you also do laundry for customers after hours. You paint up a bunch of quarters and that's what the employees use to operate the machines, and when you clean out the machines, it's easy to separate the marked coins back out from regular change. This security measure keeps everything on the up and up.

with the red quarter... one way to check coins without spending money is to load a soda machine [if it takes $2.00 just put in $1.75} and hit the coin return until you hear one drop in the cash box , on the next load just 2 quarters hit return put the marked coin in and keep cycling until the marked coin comes out, checking all the quarters as you go

red paint is a store coin. the proprieter would paint quarters red to put in the jukebox to encourage people to play it. When the coin box was emptied, the red, or "house" coin, would be returned to the owner.

Hola Quin, I found this penny that has the Lincoln head on one side and the Lincoln Memorial on the other side. The interesting thing about the penny is that the images are only HALF images. The year starts with 20.. but nothing else. Can you tell me anything about it, please?

The red quarter is probably a Bar quarter, the bar owners will paint a handful or so of quarters to be used with the jukebox. To help kick the mood up in the bar they'll give some of these to a patron to go pick some music on them. Now the purpose is to get their quarters back from the owner of the jukebox.

How far were the banks from each other? I see all the quarters were fed, rolled quarters. Depending on how close the banks were to each other, the quarters could all be coming from the same place, Brink’s, Guarda, WellsFargo.

the '66 i have heard it as a house coin used at a bar or older restaurant that has juke boxes, when the owner of establishment wants to listen to music but doesnt wand to spend his own funds to tempt other patrons to spend thier funds he will use the red coins and when the owner of juke box comes to collect of course the red ones goes back to the bar owner and the rest goes to the juke box owner

The Red on the coin when I was young they were used in game rooms to keep track of what the games did for the day, if you went with cash when you got quarters they were Red if you brought your own quarters they were plain. They had other colors to keep track of free plays machine malfunction just all kinds of code colors. Some people would use Slugs and a lot of places went to Tokens that way you had to have a token because quarters wouldn't work.

Help! I found a quarter today that I think might be a very rare error. It’s extremely worn but then I noticed something very strange.. it has heads on both sides! On one side it appears to have double heads ! One looks normal and one over the top is zoomed in? After doing some research I found out that the secret service recovered 1 like this in 2000.. The coin was found in a safe deposit box in 2000, along with many other error coins from the San Francisco mint. There is speculation that the coin may have been a trial piece that was retained by a former mint employee. One sold for $80,000 by private treaty in 2001. I would be happy to send pictures! I think that’s what we found today!

I got about 100 2019 and 2020 quarters in my change stash i been holding for last 4 years. I just save my change but only recently got into looking for rare varieties. Most of them are in uncirculated condition since i got them new and then they went in my jar. Are the W's still worth looking for?

Here I am looking for 2022 and 2023 Philadelphia's and not finding them and the first coin you look at is a 2022 Philadelphia. You say it's harder to find 2010s and 2011s, but I have trouble finding 2009s. Have you found a type 1 1776-1976? I haven't found one yet. I've only been collecting and coin roll hunting since January of this year, but I have yet to find one single quarter older than 1965. War in the Pacific is the only W mint I have found so far. I am definitely interested in seeing what you find in small dollar coins and half dollar coins.

Quarter Dollars dated 1964 and prior are 90% silver. The vast majority of them have been culled from circulation decades ago.

@@asarand I can dig it. The last one I came across 'in the wild' was at a poker game with friends a few years ago. I heard it 'ring' the instant it hit the pile when tossed in with a bet. One can still find 40% (1965 - 70) dated Halves in bank rolls, however, though I've never found a '70 which were only from mint and proof sets.
