This a lovely performance of one of the greatest Handel duets. We studied Milton's poems L'Allegro and Il Penseroso at school 60 years ago and I took a long time to get used to the words being sung even to Handel's music I still like them read.This Duet comes from Il Moderato which has nothing to do with Milton but is wonderful nevertherless.

Both beautiful singers, but the contrast in their voices is so great that it never becomes a true duet, where both voices together become greater than the sum of their parts. Antique wind instruments are excellent, giving a playful context. Remember, this is vocal iconoclasm, celebrating the Enlightenment.
