I think the director may have been inspired by Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” because I saw echoes of that film in the acting style. Maybe that was prevalent at that time. But watching it in retrospect, I really enjoyed watching this film. I found it well paced and despite the low-budget special effects, it’s still thrilling storytelling . I had never heard of this director before, so I will be checking out more of his work. Thanks for sharing this movie with other fans.

Incredible remastering. And a quite fascinating film but with many inconsistencies. For example, if this guy Pax has such control over natural processes, why couldn't he keep his plane from crashing? And for someone whose stated purpose is to create peace, he sure does kill a lot of people and behave in a very ruthless manner. But, all in all, fascinating.

Correct imo. Clever of them though. They certainly put in a massive amount of work and expense to create an initially "fake" real film.

IMO this is a modern movie made to look like it was made in 1938. I'm only 14:06 into it but this is screaming "made by some 2020 kids. 13:42 general slamming his hand onto a Kaiser helmet seems a modern slapstick which seems way out of place in what would have been a very serious statement movie. The fonts look modern. Where's the heavy makeup used in 1938 film. All the actors are extremely young...like film student young. Dialogue is unsophisticated for 1938. Too informal, limited vocabulary, poor grammar like modern speech. The frame rate jerk seems artificial...like a trope of what we think a 1938 film would look like. Shouldn't be any frame jerking on the original film, especially after remastered. Same with all the defects. I'm a software engineer and implement these old time effects in a video editing app. They do not seem legit in this video and should have been removed in a remaster. EDIT: I've been watching the defect marks on the video. No question these were added by modern video editing software. Very clever of these film students...but they could have done much better, Maybe they're just too trapped by tropes. EDIT: Good old Wikipedia confirmed this was made in 2019.

Yeah too young. Noticed right away. Remember the Dead End Kids? They all looked 30 years old. Also noticed right away the weird camera angles not seen back then and the shaky hand held stuff. Not to mention the original film stock has not existed for about 80 years. New stuff just does not look the same, no matter how many artifacts and glitches one puts in.
