I'm almost 64, and I saw many of these episodes when they first aired. Whatever flaws they had, they showed a down to earth simplicity and real character and feeling that are sadly missing in the four pathetic soaps that are still airing on TV. Thank you for posting these classic episodes!

Besides the joy of seeing old shows, what's striking is how old fashioned this was when you consider Y&R would premiere 4-5 months later. How they modernized the industry in the 70s was wonderful-- mid and late 70s ATWT was excellent too. And I'd passionately argue they modernized way too much after the 80s, lost the heart and characters, but wow how great they were in mid and late seventies
@anthonymeans74392 жыл бұрын
Yes and I think Y&R had a lot to do with that from its music and production quality

P&G soaps such as ATWT, GL, SFT and AW for example kept the same styling of soaps until around 1981. Very traditional styling going back to the 50’s. If you notice all 4 of those soaps changed their openings in 1981 to be more modernized, plus the early 1980’s saw more action storylines, on location and of course more sex.

This is from WCBS New York because of The Mike Douglas Show slide
@christopherpope34152 жыл бұрын
Research shows that the "Bridget Loves Bernie" program refered to in the CBS promo within this tape actually aired Saturday December 9th, 1972. That means this ATWT was aired during the week of December 4-8, 1972.
@EdwynNSanchez2 жыл бұрын
and according to an episode guide of "The Mike Douglas Show" that I was looking at on the internet, the bumper included mentioned Stiller and Meara as the guest co-hosts. Since I understand that this was from a New York broadcast, their co-hosting week must've aired during the week that you just mentioned this ATWT being broadcast. I could be wrong still, so please correct me if I am.
@christopherpope34152 жыл бұрын
@@EdwynNSanchez I think it's now nailed down to that week December 1972, enough evidence out there to prove it.

I wonder if ATWT ever did any special Christmas episodes? I know SEARCH FOR TOMORROW did.
@christopherpope34153 ай бұрын
@@AllenJones-w3p Every year the holidays were a major part of the show. If you look online there are some of those Christmas shows out there for viewing, and there's one or two that go back into the 1960's. Faithful viewers often cleared their early Christmas Eve afternoons to spend a little holiday time with the Hughes family.

Tommy, sadly, original copies of episodes mainly from 1970-1976 don’t exist. They were erased. It was common practice, particularly soap operas during these years. I’ve been hoping for years in finding episodes from these years to no avail. 😔😔

Soap operas were still done live back in 1972?

Yes....this show and :"Edge of Night" were both live until 1975.
@woohooboy11 ай бұрын
ATWT and EoN were the only ones still being broadcast live in the 70's. By the end of the 60's when color television was introduced, the majority of soaps started being pre-recorded. ATWT stopped being done as a live show in 1975 when the series expanded to 60 mins as it was no longer feasible to continue doing the show this way. EoN stopped around the same time when CBS decided to cancel that series and the show moved networks to ABC.
