I loved the scene with Tom Hughes and Grandpa Hughes (who reminds me so much of my late grandfather whom I was very close). So good to see multiple generations of Hugheses together. I wish there were more episodes together featuring the Lowells/Stewarts. LIke Grandpa Hughes, Judge Lowell was an important ATWT patriarch: it would be great to see scenes of him, Ellen, David, Dan, and other family members discussing issues such as the Susan/Dan/Liz/Paul quadrangle. Judge Lowell attended Dan's wedding to Kim, so I'm sure Dan is the only character in soap history who can claim having his great-grandfather in attendance at his third wedding!

Thanks. Don Hastings' natural humor really did help keep Bob from being as sanctimonious and dour as many characters in this vein. I wish there was more of Grandpa Hughes around. Such a calm, wise character.

One thing missing from today's soaps: real family discussions. No wonder the Hughes clan lasted so long!

Loved Grandpa Hughes... he sure had Lisa's Number when she was making time with Bruce! I remember Grandpa giving Lisa a look and then she figured out that he knew that she was playing house with Bruce.

They rapidly advanced the ages of several children I can recall. I never realized Tom was born about the same time I was. When I was in junior high school he was already a practicing physician.

That's SORAS syndrome for you - the Tom character was born in early 1961 - and when most 8 year olds were in 3rd grade in 1969 Tom came back from Vietnam as a drug addict. Tom became an attorney like his Grandfather Chris, not a physician.

Santos Ortega a veteran of radio and before him Will Lee who went on to be Mr. Hooper on the PBS children's educational show Sesame Street for many years until his death he appeared in the early days from the premiere and for a handful of episodes and these were when they were live and he didn't work out and Ortega took over the role and played the part for several years up until his death though he only made sporadic appearances until he didn't appear anymore as the character was living with relatives elsewhere. To all nitpickers stop.

Wow! Just like how Jack Stauffer "originated" the role of Chuck Tyler on All My Children, Erica Hope as Nikki on The Young & The Restless and even Gillian Spencer who originated The Role of Viki on One Life To Live who woudl later play Jennifer Hughes. In The UK Joanne Warne originated The Role Of Peggy Mitchell on Eastenders but it was Barbara Windsor who made the role her own.

"Pa, money's important!" "Grandpa: It's important when you make it yourself!" Just as relevant today as yesterday. Does Tom call Will Hughes "Pa" to avoid confusion with "Grandpa Chris".

Wait.....why are lisa and bob splitting up?
@alexisdiva9
@alexisdiva9 6 ай бұрын
They had already split up after Bob learned she was cheating on him with a shoe salesman named Bruce. Later she ran off to Chicago and married a wealthy man there - that's how she was able to send $10 to Tom - way too much money for a child especially in 1966. This sounds like it was around when Eileen was on the primetime spinoff of ATWT called Our Private World that lasted a few months.

Actor Santos Ortega played the role of Grandpa Hughes. Previously, the role had been played by actor William Lee, but only for the first 2 months on the soap (1956).

Yes, they did. When Santos Ortega died in 1976, they killed of Grandpa Hughes, explaining that he died in his sleep. Same thing with Don McLaughlin (who played Chris Hughes) 10 years later.
