That’s why he is still better than the most finance minister Pakistan ever had! Removing him was one of the biggest blunders of Imran Khan. Asad Umar is a genius and most importantly he is a true patriot - so whatever decisions he would have taken in his tenure, wholeheartedly would be for the benefit of the country rather than some personal benefits.

it is a well-known fact that the causes of a country's economic issues are multifaceted and cannot be attributed to a single factor such as education or the lack thereof. It requires a detailed analysis of various factors such as political stability, corruption, economic policies, and external factors. It is, therefore, essential to have a comprehensive approach that involves all stakeholders to identify the root causes and work towards a sustainable solution.

@@ibratnak Military's double game in Afghanistan has landed Pakistan into $150 Billion dollar lose, and 100,000 dead people. Just look at rallies of banned groups in Pakistan in support of Military all of a sudden. A group who believes in genocide of Shia Pakistan which are 20% of Pakistan, can be seen supporting military in their rallies, with military men near them. Why Military has eliminated them? why keep these groups alive, and pay them free money? Then look at the amount taken away by military in the form of budget, salaries, and pension. What is left for Pakistanis? How many schools, colleges or universities can be made with that peanuts? Pakistan has less than 300 universities, and someone expects big economy from that ? Then comes the real estate sector which doesn't pay any tax on 100 of Trillions of values, like zero tax, why ? Because military is the real-estate property dealer.

@@stangerdanger7252 So you're saying the progeny of Abdali, Ghaznavi, Khalji were victims in the entire war on terror? This is not your fault. The blind spot that shifts blame from the Afghans has been systematically created since partition. In 1948, General Akbar Afghan tarnished our relations with India forever, before killing Liaquat Ali. Ghulam Muhammad Afghan dismissed the government of Khawaja Nazimuddin without any reason and started a long chain of unfulfilled civilian mandates. General Ayub Afghan, who had killed Quaid, became martial law administrator and killed Fatima Jinnah. Then General Musa Afghan started Gibraltar in 1965. General Yahya Afghan was the chief architect of the fall of Dhaka in which General Gul Hassan Afghan massacred Bengalis. It was only in 1972 when we had started 3 wars with India, seen two martial laws and lost Bangladesh that Afghans were removed from top army positions. Fast forward to 9/11, Afghans killed 70000+ Pakistanis, but we blamed America for it. Then in 2010, an Afghan propagandist was launched into Pakistani politics, but we called him an Israeli agent. Today whenever a terrorist attack by Afghan Taliban takes place in Pakistan, Afghan parties start a rigorous campaign to malign the Pak army. Today, Afghans spread terrorism as TTP, racism as PTM, sectarianism as JUIF and anarchism as PTI. Our societies have been infiltrated by Afghan influences such as polio, misogyny, terrorism, illiteracy, overbreeding, corruption, drugs, insurgency, extortion, abduction and religious hypocrisy.

Asad umar types alone can't do anything, now we need to get that in our head. When awam is disloyal and so called 'Parhay likhay with degrees' try to black mail their own country, when In crisis, that they will leave the country etc and country hasn't given them anything. When this filth of a mindset prevail, it doesn't matter how positive or solution oriented, sophisticated type come in public and try to present positive picture, things will go from worse to worst. Disloyalty with country on awam level deserves the disaster which could take hold of any country. Without deep nationalism, there's no way forward. Awam needs to realize it for their own sake and for country's sake, raise young kids with Pakistaniyat (so if crisis arise they don't chicken out which is the case right now with millennial and gen z)and they become the force with which country can rise instead of them becoming deserters while carrying the spirit of individualism. (not saying positive hype, positivity of any sort isn't needed, Asad umar is in the league of his own but we need to be real and stop acting like without nationalism and with current mindset which our clueless youth posses we can move even an inch

Dear Syed Muzamil, Lots of love from Manchester UK and best wishes. Keep going in your search for the truth as it is ultimately the truth that sets us free. Your expressions of despondency and fear are the correct emotions during these dark times. My father came to the UK in 1961 and we have nothing to be proud of back in my mother and fathers villages in Azad Kashmir. It makes for tragic reading despite sending money back home and lots of investment. The mindset has completely let two tribes down. They just want us to send money home, and it has become a bottomless pit. 60 years on, no education, the few that were, lived with a sense of self entitlement and just took and took and the uneducated are living in the hope of leaving Pakistan for a better life, but with no education, those dreams lie in tatters. So for me, the mindset and mentality need major reform throughout the land. Secondly, we need a complete and utter change of political leaders. We here in the UK lose Politicians to failure fairly quickly, but over there, Politicians despite failure seem desperate to cling on to power forever and ever. Its time for new people, fresh minds, different thought to run the country. Old school mentality needs to be wiped out. I think the country is heading for a default, bankruptcy, revolution, sobriety, new intellectual thinking and then progress. I doubt very much I will see it on my life time tragically, but wish the country well. Coming out of denial would be a great start. The country needs sobering up. I read today that even Shell have given up and are pulling out such is the demise.

@@Metalfreak327 this is a very silly mindset to have, there's no deep science in the fact that speaking common /national language will have more an impact /reach than an alien language (let's not pretend English language is widely understood here, we need to call spade a spade rather than acting privilege all the time which our youth has become accustomed of doing). Education should be done in national language which is spoken and understood through out the length and breadth of the country.

Pakistan needs serious economic reforms like India did in 1991. Make a mini silicon valley. There are a lot of talented technologists in Pakistan just like India. Equipt the youth with tech skills. Give cheaper cloud solutions etc. Teach them Java or Python or A.I Someone has to take the lead and think beyond party politics otherwise, the same beggarnomics will continue. If you have any doubts in that google JEE advanced question paper which every good indian software engineer appears in to enter all the good engg colleges in India. Print that question paper, try it yourself and give it to the best graduates of your country and then see how many of your students are able to solve that then you'll now the difference is of night and day.

All the problems of the pak stems from the fact that pak is not able to increase it's exports over the years, the problem is the dearth of paki competent technical talent in pakistan, one or two shining examples are exceptions to the norm. The mini silicon valley you're talking about doesn't grow in few years, Tata consultancy services made a joint venture with IBM in 1974 and started ops in bangalore, so the idea to make a silicon valley in pak, that ship has long sailed away. Now nothing much can be done pak is beyond repair, Pak is going to be remain bankrupt for a long time to come.

If they fail to deliver irrespective of such hurdles (which by the way are and will forever be part and parcel of every government everywhere especially in Pakistan, you just have to work your way through it) then they should step away from politics and play cricket. Honestly speaking jo hakoomat apnay mulk ke capital mai SHOPPER (plastic bags) na permanently band karwa saki in the 3.5 years it was in government woh hakoomat kya khaak chalaye gi (this small example shows their utter majboori (incapability or I should say sheer incompetence) to do anything. Asad Umer Shab suggested creating competition, which is a great idea - let's take PTCL as an example. There was a time when obtaining a PTCL landline number required reaching out to high-profile individuals or ministers, but with PTCL's privatization, competition emerged among businesses -- Observe PTCL's journey from being a public entity to its current status as a private entity. Privatizing the entire energy sector will create competition, resulting in better services. Satisfied consumers will enhance Pakistan's reputation, attracting more investors. This is a significant development for both the young generation in Pakistan and those abroad, encouraging them to stay connected with Pakistan. Moral: Privatization ensures better services, happy consumers, and a positive message for Pakistan, leading to ongoing economic improvement.

Completely found out in his first meeting with the World Bank Chief LaGarde. Imran corrected his mistake but gave his opponents including Bajwa the excuse that he did not have the team to run the country. His importance is self exaggerated. This was a fantastic interview. Thanks as always, Muzammil. What these deep dive interviews with Asad and Taimur Jhaghra reveal is that the myth and lies concocted by Pakistan’s ancien regime (and IK hating media) such as Dawn (Pawn?!) had no basis at all. After the worst IMF program in Pakistan’s history, and inheriting an economy in tatters the PTI really was moving the country towards major reforms and achieved a decent amount for such a short stint (rudely disrupted by COVID), and despite having such a shaky coalition government. Without a deeply reformed techno-democracy Pakistan is doomed, and the revenge of Thermidor (the month of the French Revolution when the ancien regime struck back against the revolution) has entirely decimated this country!! Please invite Haroon Sharif and the former head of the CPEC authority, Khalid Masood to your show as well.

If we prevent black money from entering the real estate economy, it will end up elsewhere, inevitably in a rent-seeking industry. How do we create incentives that ensure black money ends up in export-oriented industries such as BPO and startups? How do we funnel rent-seeking behavior into IT exports?

The best thing about this podcast is that host has done great homework and prepared himself so well that he is bringing out best from asad umer's experience. Well done !!! The sad part is that the theories which he is telling he had to explain all these to inter pass bureaucrats and stubborn establishment due to which obviously he couldn't deliver. Another good part is that he praised his opponent party's finance minister three or four times because he know he was good in his job but was operated by a stupid leader.

One correction on a very good research that you did on Dr. Manmohan Singh's bringing Liberalisation/De-licensing to the Indian Economy in 1991, hence his getting to becoming the PM as a result thereof: I think his becoming the PM was because of him being a pliant loyalist who deserved the post due to merit. So far one of the best ( among the 2-3/ all so far) Fin Min & PM of India. Thanks, I am looking forward to more of your pofcasts.

The way forward Cut Army size to only few thousand active personals on border may be 50k maximum. Make 6 months military training mandatory for youth. Take back land from feudal Lords. Forget about so-called Kashmir issue. Where other 200+ million Muslims are living in India, Kashmiris should now live as their party. Normalize ties with Israel. Open business with India and Israel. We need to learn a lot from them. Dismantle all secret agencies and create one civil agency led by all civilians. Nationalize all Military owned businesses. No body should be allowed to keep dual nationality. No ex-Govt or Military personal above 17th grade should be allowed to send their children abroad for studies.

This is for the new government that comes in: - De-escalate political temperatures and exit election mode asap. - Sit with the opposition to reach a consensus on the economy, rule of law and peace on the political front till the next elections. - Focus should be on delivery and not on political optics/gimmicks. - Ensure the rule of law so that the public revives its confidence in the system and make sure no political opponent is targeted unnecessarily. - Prioritize and present political/economic/security issues in parliament for debates/consensus. - Work with field experts to refine the solutions provided by parliament, to get a realistic execution plan. - Involve the private sector/media in this process to scrutinize the plan and to keep a check on whether it's being executed properly. - Reform/restructure gov institutions/bureaucracy by the plan and bring in the right people for the job, ensuring merit. - Lastly, do not hesitate to do what's needed to execute the plan in letter and spirit.
