yes. I am more happy with this dance interpretation than the "singkil" interpretation presented by K Brosas and others in Showtime. Pinakita kasi na parang singkil, pero iniba nila and concept at nilagyan ng twist kahit obvious na na may prinsesa, prinsipeng manliligaw, at mga kawayan...... ok lang sana kung pareho lang ng sinayaw ni Winwyn sa Bolivia sa isang morning show doon, kasi kahit pang-singkil ang costume pero hindi siya kasing kumpleto ng sinasayaw sa isang buong singkil performance...kahit na nag-ala ballroom siya sa huli ay medyo ok pa para sa akin, pero ewan ko lang sa mga kapatid kong Muslim na Maranao kung papasa sa kanila ang mala-singkil na performance ni K Brosas sa Showtime at ni Winwyn sa isang morning show sa Bolivia.....

May isa pang pinaka mahirap na sayaw nila at bihira lang ito ipinipresinta sa DARANGEN EPIC.. kailang pa ng 13 na lalaki na mllakas ang katawan at bwat isa ay may tig dalawang BAMBOO, ung 6 ay sa baba sa itaas nman ay 4 at sa itaas nman ay 2 at ang pinaka sa taas ay magssayaw ng warriors.. Looking down is sign is a sign of modesty, but when you combined it with chin up it can be construed as mataray (as per interpretation of the elders).Also she was instructed by the director to look at the far center camera and not down as most dancers do.

Kapagapir Tribe: Maranao Origin: Lanao del Sur Pagaper depicts a royal manner of "walking" among the Maranao people who live mainly around Lake Lanao. Ladies of the royal court perform this stately dance in preparation for an important event. The ladies gracefully manipulate the Aper (apir) or fan, while emphasizing their small steps, or "kini-kini", which is a sign of good upbringing. Kapa Malong Malong Also called Sambi sa Malong, this Maranao dance shows the many ways of wearing a malong, a simple tubular yet highly functional piece of cloth. The traditional women’s version shows this cloth of countless colorful designs; used mostly as a skirt, woven in many different ways, depending on the purpose of the wearer. Other ways the women wear malong is as a shawl, a mantle, or a head-piece. During more recent dance documentation, a men’s version was derived. This version shows in masculine rendition, how men don the malong-displaying its use as a sash or waist-band, shorts or bahag, and a head-gear that can be either functional while working in the fields, or decorative as a turban. Singkil Tribe:Maranao Origin: Lanao, Mindanao Sinkil dance takes its name from the bells worn on the ankles of the Muslim princess. Perhaps one of the oldest of truly Filipino dances, the Singkil recounts the epic legend of the "Darangan" of the Maranao people of Mindanao. This epic, written sometime in the 14th century, tells the fateful story of Princess Gandingan, who was caught in the middle of a forest during an earthquake caused by the diwatas, or fairies or nymph of the forest. The rhythmic clapping of criss-crossed bamboo poles represent the trees that were falling, which she gracefully avoids. Her slave loyally accompanies her throughout her ordeal. Finally, she is saved by the prince. Dancers wearing solemn faces and maintaining a dignified pose being dancing at a slow pace which soon progresses to a faster tempo skillfully manipulate apir, or fans which represent the winds that prove to be auspicious. The dancers weave expertly through criss-crossed bamboos. When performed by ladies of the royalty of Lanao, the dancer is usually accompanied by a waiting lady, who holds a beautifully decorated umbrella over the Princess' head wherever she goes. Royal princesses to this day in the Sulu Archipelago are required to learn this most difficult and noble dance.

As much as I admire Pia, this Singkil is wrong. She's not confident with the sticks, her fans are too stiff, and you aren't supposed to smile at all when you dance this. It's supposed to be a princess look, the kind that is kind of looking down your nose at someone, a fierce look. At least even if the other two were incorrect, she should have had that facial down.

Sir It was about the celebration po of Mindanao's and not just the Maranaos they had to adapt for tv viewing as vinta is widely known as part of Mindanao culture. They wanted it to be colourful for the eyes of the audience. For Pia we did not have control of her costume in fact we saw her costume right before we go on stage

g paco if it is for aesthetics and tv viewing... they should research and give education to the viewers not just projecting what is attractive and appealing to the eyes...i understand how the tv projection goes but still they dont put efforts on promoting the APPROPRIATE projection of culture practices of certain ethno linguistics communities in mindanao... but above all pia projects as queen and i dont see any problem to her... for me they just did it for the sake of charot performance...

I agree and understand that it is a sensitive matter. And in the contrary they did put a lot of effort in terms of this production, was it perfect? no, but they did try. With the "charot" performance I beg to disagree, they have asked what is appropriate in thinking not to offend anyone. The dance was based on the research of Lucretia Reyes Ursula a National Artist with the blessings of the elders where she conducted her research. You have to take it into consideration that they have to squeeze a ten minute dance interpretation of a folklore of Princess Gandingan into 1 min. and 30 sec. You also didn't know what happened backstage to label this performance as charot. Again it was not perfect.
