इतिहास:
इतिहासात आसावा किल्ला, विसावगड, विसामा, आसवगड अश्या अनेक नावानी ओळखला जातो. प्राचीन काळी सोपारा, डहाणू, तारापूर, कल्याण आणि इतर बंदरांचा वापर मोठ्या प्रमाणात परदेशी व्यापार साठी होत असे. आसावा किल्ला महाकावीताच्या बिंब राजाने डहाणू आणि तारापूर बंदरांना जोडणाऱ्या मार्गाच्या रक्षणासाठी बांधला असे मानले जाते. परंतु नंतर हा किल्ला गुजरातच्या सुलताना कडे गेला आणि नंतर पोर्तुगीजांकडे गेला. शिवाजी महाराजांच्या काळात हा किल्ला पोर्तुगीजांनकडे होता. १६८३ मध्ये संभाजी महाराजांच्या काळात मराठ्यांनी हा किल्ला ताब्यात घेतला पण तो फार काळ टिकला नाही. पोर्तुगीजांनी ताबतोब तो ताब्यात घेतला. पुढे १७२७ च्या वसई मोहिमेत चिमाजी आप्पानी हा किल्ला ताब्यात घेऊन पोर्तुगीजांना या भागातून कायमचे हटवले. १८१८ मध्ये कॅप्टन डिकिन्सनने हा किल्ला ताब्यात घेतला आणि महाराष्ट्रातील इतर किल्ल्या प्रमाणेच हा किल्ला हि इंग्रजांच्या ताब्यात गेला.
पोहोचण्याच्या वाटा :
मुंबई - अहमदाबाद महामार्गावर मुंबई पासून ९२ किमीवर बोईसरला जाणारा चिल्हार फाटा आहे. या फाट्यावरून बोईसरला जाताना १० किमीवर वारंगडे हे गाव आहे. वारंगडे गावात विराज फॅक्टरी आहे. वारंगडे गावातून विराज फॅक्टरीकडे जातांना फॅक्टरीच्या अगोदर उजव्या बाजूस (बोईसरहून चिल्हार फाट्याकडे जातांना) बारीपाडा गावाकडे जाणारा रस्ता जातो. (या रस्त्याच्या सुरुवातीला एक मोबाईलचा टॉवर आहे). या फॅक्टरीच्या कंम्पॉऊंडला लागून जाणारा रस्ता ८५० मीटरवरील किल्ल्याच्या पायथ्याच्या बारीपाडा गावात जातो. गाव सुरू होण्यापूर्वीच आंगणवाडीची बैठी इमारत डाव्या बाजूला दिसते. या इमारतीच्या बरोबर समोर (म्हणजेच वारंगडे - बारीपाडा रस्त्याच्या उजव्याबाजूस) एक कच्चा रस्ता किल्ल्याकडे जातो. पावसाळ्यात एक छोटा ओहळ ओलांडून जावे लागते. किल्ल्याच्या डोंगरावर जाणारी वाट मळलेली व रूंद खड्या चढणीची आहे. या वाटेने साधारण १ ते १.५ तासात आपण किल्ल्यावर पोहोचतो.
राहाण्याची सोय : गडावर रहाण्याची सोय नाही.
जेवणाची सोय : गडावर जेवणाची सोय नाही. बोईसरला किंवा हायवे वर खूप हॉटेल आहेत.
पाण्याची सोय : फेब्रूवारी महिन्यापर्यंतच पाणी असते.

Asawa Fort, Boisar
History:
In history, Asava Fort is known by many names like Visavagad, Visama, Asavagad. In ancient times Sopara, Dahanu, Tarapur, Kalyan and other ports were used for foreign trade on a large scale. Asawa Fort is believed to have been built by Bimba Raja of Mahakavita to protect the road connecting Dahanu and Tarapur ports. But later the fort passed to the Sultan of Gujarat and then to the Portuguese. During the period of Shivaji Maharaj, this fort belonged to the Portuguese. In 1683 during the reign of Sambhaji Maharaj the Marathas captured this fort but it did not last long. The Portuguese immediately captured it. Later, in the Vasai campaign of 1727, Chimaji Appani captured the fort and expelled the Portuguese from the area forever. Captain Dickinson captured this fort in 1818 and like other forts in Maharashtra, this fort came under British control.
How to reach:
92 km from Mumbai on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway is Chilhar Phata to Boisar. On the way to Boisar from this fork, Warangade village is 10 km away. There is Viraj factory in Warangade village. While going from Warangade village to Viraj Factory, the road leading to Baripada village passes on the right side before the factory (from Boisar to Chilhar Phata). (There is a mobile tower at the beginning of this road). The road adjacent to this factory compound leads to Baripada village at the base of the fort at 850 meters. Even before the village starts, the sitting building of Anganwadi can be seen on the left side. Right in front of this building (i.e. on the right side of the Warangade - Baripada road) an unpaved road leads to the fort. In rainy season one has to cross a small stream. The path leading to the hill of the fort is a bumpy and wide steep climb. By this route we reach the fort in about 1 to 1.5 hours.
Accommodation: There is no accommodation at the fort.
Food facility: There is no food facility at the fort. There are many hotels in Boisar or on the highway.
Water facility: There is water only till the month of February.
