The memory of past sins, I don't know why almost nobody speaks about it. I've always been told that after confession, God forgives and forgets everything and you are again completely clean...but our flesh still has memory, the flesh is weak and is still remembers past habits and sinful behaviours, and, you are not guilty of that, but the Devil knows how to use it, specially in that moment of temptation where our rational mind is not strong. It needs time for the flesh to recover from the past. Focus on God's mercy and keep walking, poco a poco.

I don’t think I doubt whether God forgave me but I wonder if I remembered to tell every sin because it’s been so long. Plus there is some articles on things to think about when examining our conscience. Some will take each commandment and have you ask yourself two or three questions. That’s what I was doing. As the end of the 10th commandment I said I knew what I was going to confess. But now I come across other things I should ask myself like have I committed any actions under each of the deadly sins. I also am now realizing That I often commit sins of omission. Or have sinful thoughts. Those are hard to remember. Because I feel I have to remember all these things I rarely come out of the confessional feeling at peace. 😣.

I understand. I think the devil uses our shame against us like he uses our sin. When we are consumed with shame, we are not able to accept God's forgiveness 100% and we can't move forward all the way. Very few of the Saints were perfect people, but they were able to move forward and do great things! Think about St Paul and how he persecuted and murdered the early Christians and then became one of God's most effective Apostles! I sometimes think of the people I have hurt through my sin and I cringe with shame. I am learning that if I focus on this shame I will be stuck where I am. If it is God's Will, maybe I will get a chance to beg for forgiveness from them personally in the next Life. I will pray for you and please pray for me to live the best life we can. You can pray for the grace of forgetting images, certain fantasies and memories of past sins. Especially if those memories pop up involuntarily in your mind. But also memories of past sins can be used to strengthen the virtue of humility. As christians we must always be cautious not to pride ourselves because of progress we have made in our spiritual life. We have a tendency to look down on other people that seem to be "worse" sinners than ourselves. Everything is grace. So, if memories of past sins come up, just thank God for His mercy and make it an experience of growing in humility.

I am trapped in the habitual sin of chronic laziness. It starts with procrastination. I always think I have more time than I thought. I will typically finish the assignment exactly on time or a little later. I never learn my lesson. I feel ashamed of submitting a late assignment so sometimes I just want to give up. I know laziness does not sound like a serious sin. My laziness is mostly fueled my procrastination, distracting myself with constantly talking on the phone and constantly participating on social media. How can I change?

Hey dear friend. I’ve had the same problem. I recommend this book about IFS. It’s called Self-therapy by Jay Earley, 2nd edition. Also, here is this book by Bob Schuchts and it is called Real Suffering. Here is another book also by bob called Be healed. These books have helped me in my past year remembering my past abuse by people. I procrastinate and just don’t want to do something, and even while I am waiting and thinking about it, that I need to do this thing on my list, that I look down on myself and say I’m so terrible, I’m so aweful and I can’t do anything right. This is a form of pride. There are kind of like two versions of pride, at least in my thought, but these books go into it. The version I deal with is thinking I’m not good enough and I’m so aweful and I’m so not good and why would Jesus or how could he save me. Jesus loves you. And he loves me. He knows you try hard to do good, even though you don’t see yourself that way. It’s just a wounded part you have, and I have a similar one. These books will help you learn about yourself. Through the lense that Jesus sees you, ask him to help you see how good you are to him and how much he loves you, even though you make mistakes, my dear friend. Also, try not to beat yourself up bc he loves those little places you self reject very much. He loves you and just ask him to lead you and guide you to himself and heal you fully.

@@aei2023 I'm low on cash currently. There is definitely a book I'm interested in purchasing, The Heart of Perfection. It is difficult to believe Christ loves us despite our imperfections. It is difficult for me to believe other people have an ugly side just like I do. It is very easy for me to become very self centered to the point I think I'm the only flawed person. My life would be easier is I conquered envy, laziness, and vanity. I wish I was battling the sin of lust instead. Lust is a sin of the flesh. Envy and vanity are sins of the heart or the Spirit. Envy is ranked the second most serious after pride according the list of the seven deadly sins. Oh how easy my life would be if I learned to take less offense to things or I wasn't constantly worried about what others thought of me - the sin of vanity.

I love your videos but i must say i dont wholly agree with you on this point. I dont believe that shame is just a natural product of sin. I think in most cases it is something inflicted on us by others and does not even have to be linked with a sin. Many people living with chronic shame have experienced abusive and traumatic childhoods and have done nothing sinful. Also shame is never beneficial in leading someone to repentance. Shame is humillitation and distress over who we are. I think guilt is more of what you are referring to which is actually realizing the weight of our sins and feeling sorry for what we have done. Guilt and fear of God's justice are important but God never uses shame to bring us closer to him or to repentance.

OKAY....when Father Mark-Mary gives the example of the cook / chef I laughed b/c I have never, never like cooking ( I love eating though LOL ) then he gives the example of drinking.... I have never, never, ever, ever in my life drink alcoholic beverages I can imagine or guess how someone feels like but I can not relate to it. I have had my confession with the Priest about it and, it has been forgiving but stills hunts me down most of the time. The first time I commited this sin was March 1997, the second time I commited the same sin was March 1999. It is September 2021 and that sin I remember like it was just two minutes ago. What about shame we feel not for how we sinned necessarily, but for what happened to us? Such as childhood trauma and the shame we carry with us for life for what happened to us? I carry such shame over certain things (my father’s drinking, physical assault in my family). It’s as if I feel I’ve got a huge poster on my forehead entitled shame. Are you opposed to doing an upcoming video from this perspective?

Thank you, Fr Mark. I do beat myself up about grave past sins that I have brought already to confession. It dampens my confidence in preaching or reaching out to the Lord but at some point, I tell myself to be humble and still do the Lord’s work for Him. I pray for Him to give me the strength to persevere despite my fear of chastisement or humiliation. Thank you for your vocation, Fr! Please pray for me and my kids... I will pray that your ministry touch more souls and bring them back-esp. fellow brother and sister Catholics who have gone lukewarm in their faith.

At the time of temptation is the perfect time to practice mortification. St. Francis was known for having thrown himself into a rose bush when faced with a great temptation. Another saint threw himself into snow. That may not be ideal or possible for us, but going to some sort of extreme is very beneficial. I can recall pinching myself a couple of times, not enough to bruise, but enough to hurt, and then offering it up for the conversion of sinners (myself included). I honestly cannot recall having that temptation to that degree since. If that had not worked, I was going to use a rubber band and snap it on my wrist. I don’t believe God wants to see us battered and bruised, but he will come to our aid when we make a sincere heartfelt effort.

Not-sinning is closely connected with our own faith ,so there's no way out of the sinn in ascetism(wich is way of life for perfect people) but in growing our faith in Lord Jesus: by praying and above all in reading the Bible- and believing in that Word that we are reading in the Bible. Off course that Confessions and Eucharist are almighty but not without faith firstly found in the Word of God- in the Holy Bible, my brothers, itself.

lately i am struggling eith a spirit of condemnation. i feel a constant constant guilt. i am a teen and i keep falling to sins. i feel so so so dirty and rejected and hated and when i pray for forgiveness i start shaking and stuttering and i feel like God is so done with me. when i ask for forgiveness and say amen i still feel guilt, i feel guilt for even asking for forgiveness for a sin i keep committing. i feel like God is so done with me and i’m so ashamed and afraid..
