‪@ScotRail‬ is highlighting some of the trips that you can take on their trains as Scenic Trips. This includes the trip from Glasgow Central Station to Stranraer Station, in Dumfries and Galloway. I decided to take the trip from Glasgow to Stranraer, and film the trip.

At least you got to Stranraer in the end! The views along the coast were magnificent. Hope you managed to get to the museum, the harbour, and the castle, although I think you'd be a bit pushed for time to do all that! Whatever you got up to, I hope you enjoyed your visit to the town, and I'm looking forward to your video on it.

I managed to visit the museum and I had a wander around the town. The Castle of St John was closed, but that I reason enough to go back. I might even stay over in the North West Castle Hotel, the next time, to see what it’s like.

Yeah, Stranraer is a quiet wee place. There does seem to be some really nice wee cafes. I have had a look at the North West Castle Hotel, and that looks nice. Hopefully somewhere to go back to in the summer.

I'm glad that you have happy memories of Stranraer. Unfortunately, the pier next to the train station is kind of run down, as it's no longer being used by the P&O ferries. I will be back to Stranraer though. I want to stay in the North West Castle Hotel, and visit the Castle of St John.

Some times, it's best just to roll with the punches. It was a bit more annoying, when I was trying to get home. I ended up getting the CityLink coach back to Glasgow, and making my way from there.

Great video. I remember before the lines to Ayr and Largs were electrified and they still ran the diesel trains. It was good since, if you sat on the front seats of the train, you could actually see out the front window and watch the driver driving the train. Those days are long gone now...

I didn’t know about Scotrail having scenic routes. I’ll have to look into that. I have to admit, I’ve never been to Stranraer.

I found out about them last year. There's another four routes, if I remember correctly. I will be working my way through them. This was my first time in Stranraer as well.

It does seem to be a good way of getting people to use lesser used sections of the rail network. It should be fun.
