Calvo and Moreno described it in 2004, but it wasn't very popular until some people started saying it was 10-11 metres long, which would make it the largest known abelisaurid, but that estimate was debunked when it turned out they used either Carnotaurus sastrei or Majungasaurus crenatissimus to scale it up, while they should have used Skorpiovenator bustingorryi to scale it, since it is its sister taxon according to Canale et. al., 2008.
