Aseb is a strategy board game from ancient Egypt, also known as "20 Squares."

This is one of the five board games in our "Ancient Egypt" series, rediscovered by archeologists within the past 150 years. Aseb (also known by other names) is around 5,000 years old. Its popularity was widespread and apparently enjoyed by all classes of people in those times.
Descendants of the game are played today, and many of the original game mechanisms are applied to modern table-top games. And not only is the game historically significant, but it's also FUN!

I have some throwing sticks for the Korean game of Yutnori which I bought over there. They usually use a cloth board but you could make a wooden one with pegs or marbles, and make some fancy looking sticks.

The name "Aseb" is not used as often as "Game of 20 Squares" so if you want to find more information you might search with that name.

Fun fact: Ankhs were keys held by wisemen to important places. Ankhs also were the feminine energy representation and an electromagnetic coil. Nefer means harmony. The pyramid snefrus tile means double harmonys. Nefertiti means she walks with harmony. -Dr Abd’el Hakim Awyan.

That 2d4 method to generate a flat spread between 1 to 8 seems overly complicated. Using 1d8 would be much simpler.

The ancients did have d8s, but they don't appear to have been very comon. On the other hand, neither are numbered d4s. Stick dice would be more likely.
