The arithmetic used to calculate the score is a way to force the player to capture stones of the same color. Two green stones are better than one red plus one yellow. That is the purpose of the strange rule.

Really interesting scoring. Flavourwise it would make sense to get the scores of both neighbouring players, but you of course have very little control over the options the player before you has. In a different kind of game, however, it would be interesting for everyone to get, say, half of each of your neighbours' scores. You could then really do a kind of altruism as a strategy.

Sounds like Davinci's Challenge, but with cards forming diamonds instead of tiles forming flowers.

Very strategic the way to score. I prefer the name VELENO = Poison; it is much more appropriate.

Is it possible to play with 2 people?
@ToysFun-zy1dy
@ToysFun-zy1dy 3 күн бұрын
I asked this question because I don't think it's possible to play with 2 people, because if you follow the rules, player A's score will be equal to A+B, and player B's score will also be equal to A+B. So there would always be a draw, unless it's a 2-player variant. So I think this game is suitable for 3 to 4 players.

@@ToysFun-zy1dy YES BUT your score is your score in that case - no adding the Good Neighbor's score to your own. You're right - the game would always be a tie.

I think the "can't move backwards" rule might be a translation error of "can't move a piece that was just moved back to where it was on the next turn". Makes sense in Gonu games with a bigger board; probably unnecessary in Pumpkin Gonu.

I'm so glad I happened upon your Touring video! Some time ago, I found the version with the yellow box and the red vehicle & trailer. I bought it despite the lack of instructions, hoping the cards were all there at least. This particular version was "Made in Canada by The Copp Clark Co Limited under license from Parker Bros." It has the same mileage cards you have; however, the only rulebook I had been able to locate was a PDF ot the 1937 version (1,3,15,30 miles). I learnt that I had all the cards, but It was obvious that the goal couldn't possibly be the same 110 miles, so the game has sat, forlorn and unplayed. No longer - we can play! You explain the game thoroughly, and I enjoyed your history info to start. I've subscribed and am looking forward to more videos.

Almost... they were usually in the trunk of the car. The biggest challenge in the early days was the power supply and the level of heat given off by the tubes (a.k.a. "valves"). Then there was the antennae. Innovations abounded.

A year ago, at a game jam, I worked on a game that used geometric properties of shapes like the square or the octagon. Linop! reminded me of that work; but I must admit that I never thought of using it as a 3-in-a-row mechanic. I combined it with tile placement to generate valid intersections where pegs or tokens could be placed.

The rule must include the phrase: the player that fills up the board is the loser. Suppose the situation: five holes left to be filled. The player puts exactly five stones and fills up the board. I ask: who lost? without the phrase included in the rules, neither player lost.
@NewVentureGames
@NewVentureGames 29 күн бұрын
Interesting, but I'm not sure why a player would do that. Let's say Black leaves the five holes open. If the White player places 4 pegs, Black would be forced to place the last one and lose. If the White player places 3 pegs, the Black player places one and White is forced to lose. If White places 2 pegs, Black either places 3 and loses, or places one and loses on the next turn. ASSUMING that these five open holes are contiguous, of course. Or did I miss something in your example?
@antoniozumpano826
@antoniozumpano826 28 күн бұрын
@@NewVentureGames You are right, normally the player will not have a reason to do that unless he falls in a situation where there is no way to win. For example: player B was obliged to place one stone and leave the board with two open holes. Player A will play now. Of course, he will put two stones at once, otherwise he will lose. As we can see, there will not be a winner or a loser because player A placed the last two stones and not the last one.
