Ash 25 Glider at Omaka 2011

Some footage of Terry Delore flying his Ash 25 at Classic Fighters Omaka 2011 airshow at Easter. The glider is fitted with a self launch engine and spans 25m.

That glider has been modified but not to break the altitude record. The engine was never taken out and the pilots did not use pressure suits. The glider you are thinking of is a DG500. The ASH 25 here has many mods including modified underside of the wing profile, single piece canopy with electric opening and closing and some spar mods to the outer panels.

This glider WAS modified by Steve Fossett to set a World Altitude record; engine out, bay for LOX, dual canopy walls, wingroot tube batteries and pressure suits. Big G weight on EXP R&D A/W cert. Terry & Steve later used it for speed/dist records. Steve died, Terry bought ZF. Kiwi A / W cert might base on FAA cert. We did part of mods, but it was over 6 yrs. ago. Caracole - CB

It´s not only stupid music on an airshow, it`s stupid flying, too. So in some way it fits together. This plane ist not built nor certified for aerobatics. Eventhough the plane itselfe was modified, it still needs the certificate for aerobatic purpose to fly certain maneuvers legally. Well known pilots should be aware of their role model funktion towards younger pilots. That´s what irritates me mostly
