I used to live in andover uk . The RAF flew the post-war anson T21 until they retired in 68. We even had the fuselage of one at the school for the kids to play in

My dad was an observer and flew Air/Sea Rescue patrols in Ansons with 280 Squadron, RAF. Whenever I see shots of the interior of the Anson Mk.I (like at 1:31) I think of him over the North Sea, rising from his navigator's table to the folding jumpseat beside the pilot, and searching the waves for missing aircrew.

So, I was quoting Robert Shaw's BOB character, during the air duels.....'taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka, taka.....' Omaka is a gas!

My father, a teacher, knew sooner or later he would be called up during WW2. If you signed up, you had a choice and he chose RAF engine fitter. I still have his notebooks, mainly full of notes and sketches of bits of Anson engine. He was stationed at Halfpenny Green, it's in The Battle of Britain film as Halfpenny Field, gawd knows why. He had quite a scar on his bum due to a red-hot lump of shrapnel from a bomb. Dad couldn't get it off as there were 3 'oiks' on top of him in the slit trench.
