Randomly stumbling across a nostalgic uber-banger like this on streaming and remembering how bloody brilliant the song is. Even better live (given how the recorded mix is a bit wild) and the energy of the band makes it a classic 90s brit rock song.

5 people (so far) put a thumbs down. Who, where, how. why, what? It’s Ash, it’s Girl From Mars - Wadda ya want?

Its played far too fast. A common problem with guitar bands.

@@joedent3323 very true about bands’ tendencies to play fast live. I’ve been in bands that are guilty of that but this song is all about the lift after the verse (almost punk, with just strumming on one chord) and I think the tempo is not as bad as I have seen other live versions.

I was talking with a mate here in Italy tonight about what music we liked. I had to throw this song into the mix. I love this song for a few reasons. The first reason is that A major chord when the rest of the band kick in (and it’s continually used, with similar effect, throughout the song) - for me, that’s pure unbridled rock n roll in one chord. That alone merits the Flying V he’s playing and they are tough to justify. I think this explains what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYCyZoZqq92cZtE That must have made them feel so good to play live. The second thing I love is that beautifully concise, restrained solo - he lets you know he can kick ass but he doesn’t feel need to actually kick your ass. To be honest, sometimes I wish he had. I’d love to hear that. Third thing, the contrast of the melancholy final verse, followed by one last blast of the chorus. The fourth thing I love is the story. A complete song IMHO. My mate had never heard this song before. I’ll get feedback tomorrow. What songs move you and why?
