I’m really getting into Ash Soan’s playing. His style, touch, and sound are exactly what I hear in my head when I imagine “my” sound to be.

In my opinion its really nice that you allow someone on the otherside of the world to use the bottom of your snaredrum as a coffeetable. Man that thing sounds deep!

I've just bought a pair of 70's hollow logo hats. Lovely, light and responsive.

IMO--- Most ride cymbals make better crashes than, crash cymbals make rides. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. When I was in my first serious band, I was using a 20inch A Zildjian medium-ride as my crash and an old vintage 1940's or 50's 21inch A Zildjian Deep Ride... and they both worked great for crashes and rides. For the record---- 15inch A Zildjian New Beat hats. A rocking setup, indeed.

Those hats have a great sound... bright, but not harsh. I keep mixing and matching hats in the hope that I'll get lucky.

Five minutes ago, I bought Robbie's "Reality killed the video star" and listened to "Morning sun". I thought it's your groove and so I had a look at your discography...just to find out, that I'm an expert:-) I love your groove.

hey ash just wondering, do you ever get asked for a brighter crash or ride sound, more in the range of an a or a custom?
@Chunkaway11 жыл бұрын
Ash, do you ever have any issues with the bigger crash/rides hanging on too long in a track? I have been debating on whether or not to use a 20" K Constantinople Bounce ride as a crash, and I'm a little nervous about how long the cymbal takes to completely fade away.

In my opinion they sound far too mass produced now. I prefer handmade cymbals. Istanbul and Meinl make some beautiful stuff.

Those cymbals don’t record very well sadly. Zildjians will always be the perfect choice for drummers using mics live or in the studio. They just ‘work’.

There actually aren't any 15" K hats left, Adele ate them all! lol
