Up until we got Serena, I never thought there would ever be a girl for Ash. As much as I liked Misty, unlike other people I always felt she was too mature for him. Then there was May I actually she’d be a better choice (they both tend to be goofs) but then they had her start to grow feelings for Drew. With Dawn I’m torn between her rival Zoe (if they can do same-sex relationships in this show), Kenny (I usually root for the childhood friend type of relationships), or her male counterpart Lucas. As for Iris, it might not make sense, but I’m going with Georgia for her. Through them all, not a single one of the girls that Ash has traveled with seemed like a good fit for him and it seemed that his first love would always be Pokemon Training. Now I believe we finally have a winner. So what does anyone else think?

Misty to mature for him? Honestly I don't think she is so mature. Yeah, in many ways more than her sister, but she always seem comparably immature to Ash(but their relationship was more of getting on others nerve and Misty sometimes being jealous of Ash, which all in all couldn't really make good ground for healthy relationship). Who actually matured more during traveling with other female companions, and albeit May wasn't so mature at the beginning she did kinda matured till Diamond and Pearl - and for her age she was kinda mature. And surely May could be good pick for Ash if not her feeling for Drew. As for Dawn... in one hand she kinda have more connection to Ash, and yet feel less fitting to him. And don't have so sure love interest as May. I mean I would go with Kenny (I'm also for childhood friend or just long lasting, close friendship type of relationship as I believe friendship is best ground for healthy love to grow), and Zoe... well I actually would call here more a friend than a rival actually (yes, they were rivals to, but in the first place they were friends), but anyway there wasn't any hint of anything romantic between them nor dynamic which could contribute to that(and forcing characters into same-sex relationship where there isn't the slightest hint or actual ground for that is IMO just stupid). Iris an Georgia... the same and even more, I think generally - no matter the sex - trop of going from hate to love is very bad and unconvincing (one could say that it was the case for may and Drew, but I wouldn't say so. Drew was rather condescending and May was mad at him for that of course, but there wasn't actual disdain or hostility like in case of Iris and Georgia). Also (I guess ironically to some) Iris is... to immature for Ash. Yeah, she was the on calling him a kid all the time but the point is... usually she was the one more childish among them, and her urge to talk him down of how childish he is, and thus making herself more "mature"... is actually very childish (it's classic case of something I called "I'm-so-mature-syndrome"). And Serena... yes, she seems perfect to Ash. I mean I'm currently only around finish of 2nd season of XY, but it's quite clear visible they fit together so well, and all their interaction just seems so much more meaningful than these Ash had with any other girl. Actually having watching quite a lot pokemon analyzes and theories I did encounter some of Ash shipping and those (together with some AMVs based on anime scenes) convinced me to ship Ash with Serene even before I actually see her in the show. Though also from these videos I come to conclusion that perhaps second (if it wasn;t for Drew maybe third) best choice for Ash could be Lillie, as they also seem to have some meaningful connection, albeit not necessarily meaning anything beyond close friendship.

In the encounter with her in Journeys, he was happy to see her and I saw a serious look on his face when the boat started to go, implying that he wanted to talk some more with her but just couldn't at that moment.

I think there is a chance for Pokemon anime (and for what I've seen Journey isn't bad, but... it raise a question if after them a next generation in the anime would make sense?).
