Oof! Man a good ASH video is always so satisfying to watch, especially the high energy passes with enough left to just keep on flying! Amazing.

This looks like it was a blast! I do miss soaring -need to get back into it - flying for the sake of it, and a cloud is literally a destination.

It is a great way to fly, you learn to read the sky and know where the best thermals can be found. It does just become a game of cloud hopping sometimes!

Interesting to see that it was German-registered as a motor glider (D-K...). Very nice video. I only fly powered airplanes so I was surprised at the seemingly high speed for the approach. Is the airspeed indicator in km/h as is customary for gliders in Germany? (In that case it wasn't nearly as fast as I thought)

Thank you. We fly a fast approach in gliders to counter the effect of wind gradient as we don't have engines we use speed to over come this effect instead. The ASI in this glider along with pretty much every other in the UK is marked in Knots. This glider (D-KOOL) was custom built to order so had UK instruments fitted.

Clement Allen Thanks for the clarification. Powered aircraft in Germany are also in knots (some, including ours, which is French, have a km/h scale in addition to knots), but gliders here fly altitudes in metres and speeds in km/h. So approach speed in this case was as fast as I initially thought. Cool. (Or rather, Kool! Nice registration.) I would have thought if custom-built for a British customer that it would also be registered in Britain. But within EASA territory it doesn't really matter, I guess.

pinkdispatcher I'm not sure why its registered in Germany, I'll have to ask!

I'd love to get a flight with wings as big as that!! Where abouts did you go? A friend of mine told me he found a random ASH25 while soaring..

Yes it's a great experience. We flew from the London Gilding Club in Dunstable to Cambridge then to Rugby and finally back to Dunstable.

Is the ash 25 able to slip?

+Massimo Weis I've not seen it done but would imagine it can. Obviously wouldn't be as responsive as something with a shorter wingspan.
