I’ve flown this route many times with different airlines. Back in 2018, I flew this route on the BA A380 on the upper deck, was a great experience. That was on G-XLED but I flew this exact aircraft (G-XLEC) just last year from SFO-LHR!

Great trip report! FYI, BA will be retro fitting all their A380 cabins starting from this summer and concluding in 2026.

Lovely trip report. It's great to be on an A380 for nearly 11 hours, and I like your wing view. I don't think BA'd retrofit their A380 in the future too, because I don't think they have long-term plan for these jumbo jets

That IFE box under your seat in that position is actually criminal. Especially on a long haul flight.

Bruh, both of the above comments were whacky … I happen to agree with you my friend. I have a size 14 foot… nothing being able to straighten my right leg because of a steel Xbox under the chair would kill me. I wonder if that’s under all the window seats that control the row 🤔🤔

Thank you for posting this! I was curious about this flight… I’ve never flown on the a380 and although I’m a diehard queen of the skies I think I need to fly the king at least once and pick the 777 for the return trip… all those people on the plane must be a tad…. Annoying 😂😂

It’s crap that they close off the stairs. People need to get up and walk during long flights. Being a double decker makes the walk better if you can climb up and down some stairs. A World Traveller Class passenger could go upstairs, to the upstairs World Traveller Cabin and then back down again.

Why in US the international transit procedure is prohibited?
@andrewburgemeister6684
@andrewburgemeister6684 3 ай бұрын
Because US airports were not designed to allow for sterile transfers like in other countries such as Singapore, the UAE, Qatar or most other countries. For most travellers their journey begins or ends in the US so airports were mainly designed to reflect this. Another reason is that the US government just simply does not allow it, especially post-9/11. This is to prevent inadmissible people on the No-Fly List or other government watchlists from even boarding a flight to the U.S. and to prevent asylum claims being made at the airport. The US Government mandates flight passenger manifests are to be submitted for any plane using their airspace which includes some Canadian domestic flights that go into U.S. airspace since they want to know exactly who is wanting to enter the U.S. This also means people have to get a transit visa or ESTA waiver for the eligible VWP countries to confirm their identity and their eligibility to board a flight to the U.S.

@@andrewburgemeister6684 yes, entering US (and some G7 countries like EU, UK, Canada) is quite strict especially for those who were coming from their sanction countries (e.g China, Russia, Iran, etc), so it's possible for the US government to have a screening before flight to prevent the blacklist or "red zone" passenger. And in the US, exiting for international flight doesn't require an immigration procedure. So the departure area in most of the international airports are sometimes were still mixed with the domestic passenger. Chicago O'Hare is one of the example. ANA and Lufthansa's flight are depart from the Terminal 2/3 which their departure terminal is still on the United domestic area.

@@NADIFPUTRA_787_9 yeah I noticed a lot of flights at the international airports were both international and domestic at neighbouring gates (ie: one gate has a flight to Cancun and the other to Atlanta). Interesting as well there was no passport control leaving the U.S. but I guess they don’t really care that much about who leaves the country and they just go off the flight manifests to record departures. Probably would be too costly and too much red tape to change the layouts and designs of airports there to allow for transfers for only a small number of travellers transiting to another destination. We waited a while at JFK in the lines to see an officer to be asked about the purpose of our travels and how long we were staying for, but as an Australian passport holder eligible for the ESTA program it wasn’t really much of a hassle.

@@andrewburgemeister6684 how about in UK which they still has an international transfer but no exit passport checkpoint?
@andrewburgemeister6684
@andrewburgemeister6684 3 ай бұрын
@@NADIFPUTRA_787_9 it probably comes down to security reasons and the national security environment in the U.S. after 9/11 which is why you have to go through immigration and customs, collect your bags and recheck them onto your next flight. Even if they had the infrastructure to support sterile airside transit the current laws relating to immigration procedures and national security would not allow it. I’m pretty sure the UK has always had the airport infrastructure design to support sterile airside transit between flights like in most other countries, typically you would go through a corridor following the signs indicating “International Transfers” in the arrivals area where you would come across a security screening checkpoint like you do before entering the sterile departure area and then you would come up into the main departure area. The UK also goes off flight manifests to record entries and exits from the country.

Passengers aren’t they getting a bit too spoiled?? By saying BA definitely needs/must refurbish their cabin!! Do you know that it’s come at a cost and depending on how long the 380 will stay in the fleet does it worth it!!!???? Just be happy traveling on a 380 they are getting fewer and fewer ..!!! Ppl don’t get the chance they have just to enjoy things simply. A Q’s, I saw faces of cabin crew were they asked permission to be filmed and exposed ??

With so much competition out there, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a refurb to a 10 year old cabin. It’s good that there are already announced plans for refurbs from next year.

15:00 I don't really see why there is a reason to complain about the IFE. It has a screen and a nice monitor. It's not the hottest version so what. Do you drive a RR Ghost at home ? You don't wanna know our standard we had in 1980 when i flew that route with PAN AM. They had a screen somewhere in the aisle on the ceiling and you could barely see anything from that damned movie. You don't like the movie ? Ha. Bad luck. No switching to another one. So this is absolutely ok here. Ey ? 😊

True, it's definitely good enough for most, but the system is over 10 years old now, and the world of technology moves fast (4K widescreens with bluetooth audio is being rolled out in economy on other airlines now). It may not be the determining factor, but people make conscious decisions over which airlines they choose to fly with based on their hard product and this IFE system's clunky UI and responsiveness will be noticed. The amount of airline and aircraft choice available for economy is huge. My point is that objectively speaking, BA is falling behind compared to other carriers with its older hard product.
