Ashby Village Events Team Presents "Keys Bags Names Words" Question and Answer Session

Ashby Village is excited to sponsor this hopeful and inspiring film portraying stories of both the personal and global impacts of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The film follows a cohort of young scientists and artists from around the world as they harness every aspect of creativity, humor and compassion to lead the way towards hope and resilience.
Many of us think dementia is one of our greatest fears. This documentary aims to shift that narrative of fear and hopelessness to one of hope and action. Keys Bags Names Words shows: intimate profiles of people living with dementia and their care partners, doctors discussing what you can do to support brain health and prevent cognitive decline, musicians, artists and worldwide policy experts engaged in bold approaches to leading the global challenge for health and social care in the 21st century.
This film is not a lament to loss, but an inspiring celebration of the human spirit!

Award winning Producer / Director, Cynthia Stone has been creating social justice documentary-style pieces for nearly three decades. Her work has appeared on KQED, and nationally on PBS, The BBC/PRI, and The Discovery Channel, among others. She's covered education, the environment, health, poverty, and equity issues, and is inspired to highlight people and programs finding solutions to seemingly intractable problems. The wisdom and humor of those in this film helped her better connect with, and care for, her own mother throughout her aging process from her vital active years through her memory loss.
Caroline Prioleau co-leads the hear/say oral history project that focuses on collecting and sharing personal stories about the experience of aging, dementia, and caregiving. The hear/say team teaches classes and workshops and has produced two books of stories, with more to come. The project focuses on ethically collecting, preserving, and sharing these stories - which is how the film got started.

Ashby Village launched in 2010 after many discussions and community meetings that began in 2007, initially serving Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, El Cerrito, Emeryville and part of Oakland. In December 2019, Ashby Village expanded to Richmond. July 1, 2020 North Oakland Village merged with Ashby Village.
