I love Bulma getting the potential unlock for her mind, makes her even more relevant to the story. Also she's not completely left behind and her interactions with Goku keep her among the main characters even when she can't fight. Krillin getting the Kaiyo training in the previous arc made him much more relevant too and Nappa coming back with Kaiyo training and being a challenge for Raditz was unexpected. I think there were too many fights though, sometimes less but more meaningful fights are better than more but less meaningful fights (that's why Old Piccolo and King Piccolo were such good antagonists and the supporting cast needed to find ways to seal him since they couldn't beat him, something that would have been great in the Namek, Cell and Buu arcs).
