Last Action Hero was a great film. Fight me Ashens. It seems that everyone that remembers this movie as bad either only knows it by proxy or doesn't remember it properly. I'd kill to have movies take creative risks and think outside the box like this film did. It was so freaking entertaining

Hell of a lot more entertaining than the endless parade of sequels prequels reboots remakes and "reimaginings" we've got going on today. Sadly creativity isn't profitable, so the big money buys up rights to proven success and decides to squeeze them for as much cash as they can, leaving the intellectual property and those associated with minimal dignity in the process.

The presence of Whiskers the cat is explained. Danny is angered by the fact that the in-movie universe has no base in actual reality. He expresses his displeasure by stating that Whiskers was a character in a single Jack Slater spin-off aimed at younger audiences, and yet, an eternal part of things now, to the point where absolutely no one questions the presence of an animated anthropormorphic cat detective with the voice of Danny De Vito. I think it was a nod towards movie franchises that either retcon previous volumes, or refuse to acknowledge their existence at all, such as Friday the 13th. Once its been wriiten in, it is in there forever regardless of how disliked it is.

The thing with not using female characters is that toy companies didn't (and still don't) believe that girls buy action figures or that boys would want a female character figure.
@Andromedax017 жыл бұрын
To be perfectly fair, I've worked in a toy store for years and things like girl power rangers would warm pegs and end up clearanced 90 % of the time. Relatively recently, Bandai has pretty much stopped making those because they just didnt sell. There are exceptions though, two years ago there was this little girl who loved power rangers and having to tell her that the girl rangers toys didnt actually exist broke my heart a little (parents had been scouring toy stores all over town trying to find them)
@Azymyth7 жыл бұрын
GeekZolda - International That relates more to the fact that Power Rangers doesn't have the hype it used to and has more or less become a nostalgia thing for people that grew up in 90's/early 20's when the show first came out. I wouldn't be surprised if that girl only even knew about Power Rangers because her parents showed her them.
@Rot_Soft7 жыл бұрын
Both of those are mostly true. Young girls for the most part don't want action figures (they want soft play, costumes, role playing toys like kitchens and dolls) And for the most part young boys do not want a female character because they don't fit in the ultra masculine scenarios that usually surround action figure play (Unless for the damsel in distress)
@Andromedax017 жыл бұрын
I used Power Rangers as an exemple, but it is true for all boy's lines. The only exception I've noted is April from the recent Nickelodeon TMNT show wasnt exactly a hot item, but she sold reasonably well. All other "girl action figures" just dont sell. Arcee from transformers, wonder woman, Baroness from GI Joe all ended up shelfwarming hard. (also I have to point out you're wrong : Power Rangers is a very hot property among kids, toys come out every year, and every year they sell really well. There's a new series every year, keeping the show fresh to young audiences.)
@Andromedax017 жыл бұрын
However, I would say that "roleplay toys like kitchens and supermarket stalls are for girls" is also genrally wrong. Roleplay toys, in my experience appeal to boys & girls evenly, but I've noticed some parents are a bit wary of buying a kitchen for a boy for whatever reason, I always tried to reassure them that "yes, kids love cooking too !" with the occasional "A lot of famous chefs are male, right ?". Parents can be pretty silly. I've had a few who seemed legitimately concerned about their daughter because "they want hot wheels for christmas"... Just let em play what they want ! come on now.
