Thinking Out Loud: If you dug a large hole, filled it with brush, burned it, placed a foil wrapped wild hog on the burning coals, cover it with dirt. Uncover the wrapped hog the next day, you'd have Pulled Pork Sandwiches for everyone!

You’ve said a couple times how secluded this place is but man when the equipment is off you don’t hear a sound, looks like a dream location for some nice houses! I love your daily regiment of tiding up the job site after the heavy work is done , it sure makes a statement if you’re pulling onto your property and the contractor takes time to slick-up the entry area like that..quality work.

The haul truck and larger dozer really increases your efficiency in these clearing projects. It would be interesting to use a heavy duty disc harrow on half on a project like this prior to the root raking to measure the reduction in the amount of topsoil that piled up during the raking. When you are doing ponds, it is not a big deal to bury 20% of the topsoil with the roots but if you are using the land for growing anything you want to minimize the loss of topsoil. I think cutting it with a disc would dramatically cut the amount of topsoil lost during the raking.

How long will it take for those roots and junk to compost, absorb the ashes, and become top rate topsoil? And the ground pressure of the D6 is roughly 10 psi.. but that truck is likely 120+ in each tire...
@letsdig182 жыл бұрын
Honestly you could dig it up in 50 years and it will still look the same

Reminds me of well drilling in Maryland, 140 or so feet down you can pull up wood and topsoil... The wood feels like it's not old, but was covered when a meteorite hit the earth, clearing the Chesapeake bay roughly 40,000 yrs ago...

Amazing how much you can get done as a one-man show Chris. So no concerns about any settling of those pits after pushing in the ash & roots? I know you packed them in well with the dozer and loaded haul truck...and likely doesn't matter much if nothing is being built on them.
