I personally don't think that Ashes is going to shake things up in the MMO scene. I could be wrong, but I think it is going to fill a specific niche in the scene that is not currently being filled (maybe EVE still is). I feel like there's a limit onto how many players a game like this can bring to the scene. I'd love to be proven wrong though, as I've been really enjoying the alpha so far

The way I justified the $120 price point to joining the alpha was looking at their expected duration of alpha (likely 12-18 months). It’s cheaper than if you were to pay for the sub for the same amount of time and I understand the initial paywall decision while still making it cheaper for players that intend to stick around to test.

As someone heavily invested in L2 and Archeage back in the day, the AoC missed the mark by about 5 years for me. I just don't see myself playing it anymore, especially when it still takes like 3 years to come out. I just don't see the game being fun for anyone who doesn't treat it as a secondary job.

The fact that you only mention world of warcraft, lets the audience know, that you don't know what you are talking about. Steven Sharif started this project on the basis of Lineage 2 and Runescape, not world of warcraft. That is the main reason Ashes of Creation looks like it does.

Im tired of early access this early that beta this beta that. Ill play the game when it comes out. Absolutely ridiculous the game has taken over 10 years to create. Sure, they needed money to keep going, but 10 years in technology is a long ass time. 10 years go by and their game is immediately out dated. They probbaly have to do a refresh on the engine that runs the game once a year since stuff is always improving

I don't think AoC will even make a dent in the landscape but I don't think for a second that it's a scam. It kind of hits the same space as Star Citizen: Scummy funding, gouging the believers, endless delays coupled with endless feature creep, but development leadership that absolutely believe in what they're doing. I will say that no matter what future product your talking about, if the developers stop believing the sales pitch it becomes a scam.

Hate to be a doomer...this looks terrible for the resources that have put in. Maybe I just hate the unreal engine look...but it feels so generic. So boring. WoW gives you more artistic diversity in the first 5 minutes upon logging in for the first time. This feels like a game targeted at MMO players...which is fine....but it will never kill WoW if its purely horizontal in nature. Bloat is killer for these studios. They promise way too much...and then deliver on 50% of it.

idk why but ashes looks so bad, the lighting is awful, the animations look janky, the character models are appalling, the UI looks gross, and a lot of the gameplay mechanics sound super unfun or only for sweats and incels. i hope it is all these things and the sweats and incels will flock to it and leave good games so we can stop seeing them farm for attention in worldchat

I 100% agree with you on Lighting, Animations and Character models, I am just hoping it gets fixed/polished once the base game systems are built and ready. I have seen some leaks of lighting updates and they look good, finally makes us feel it’s really a Unreal 5 game, lol 😅
