Asheville 2014 Razor Meet

This video shows some of the action that took place at the 2014 Asheville straight razor meet. There were lots of shaving gear and paraphernalia to be seen, and great people to meet. I really recommended attending a meet sometime if you can swing it.

for something as simple as shaving, i love the amount of traditional art and science you all give in perfecting such a tradition of getting a good shave. i really like this vid. its a skill that all men should perfect but somehow we have lost alot of our traditions.

+stuknda80z I agree with you about the shaving, I hate shaving. The good thing about using straight razors or wet shaving is that it makes the mundane drudgery of shaving and turns it into a nearly enjoyable task. I can relate with what you say, I look at some hobbies and shake my head, and wonder what the draw is.

I like tape. The spine calculated to the width of the blade will determine how the angle comfortable the shave will be. Usually between 12-18 degrees. Especially ATG. I use the Belgian stones. Synthetic stones are too aggressive on my skin. I top of a thick stubborn beard. I prefer to protect the initial integrity the bevel by using tape and the Unicot method.

Interesting walk-around video. Nice to watch people who know what they're doing. I assume the Asheville event is annual? Probably missed the 2015 date but is there a proposed date/place for the 2016 event? Asheville is not that far from me.

They were doing some repair work. They were using wet dry sand paper cut to fit the round disk.

I would reccomend going to the Straight Razor Place forum and look in the classifieds to see who offers honing services. If you want to do it yourself I would reccoment reading the wiki on the same forum and ask specific questions you might have on the forum.

I'm African American and I am into straight razors and phillips shavers. but why don't black people do this just asking???
