Asheville is a big city and crowded and heavy traffic and don't know where you'll park. Asheville is very Gentry-fied , for upper middle class and wealthy. The rest of us peasants barely making it. This goes for all the outlying smaller cities like Hendersonville, Brevard, Black Mountain, Mills River, etc...

I know there have been so many changes in the last few years and I’m sure it affects people greatly. Yes, there is more money coming into Asheville because the word is definitely out.

The big "corporate owned" hospital here is on the teetering verge o losing it's Medicare accreditation so if you need medical care and have Medicare beware. Mission Hospital was great when it was a non-profit but the City sold to to Corporate and it's gone down hill ever since. Hospital short staffed, Nurses protesting, doctors leaving, etc...

Yes, mission was bought out and a lot of people are not happy about it. Thank goodness there are other resources but it still is the hospital right in the middle of town.

Which hospitals in the area are rated higher? Is the one in Hendersonville good? Should I just schlep it to Charolette or Greenville if I have family with special medical needs?

Beth a real estate competitor of yours had a very good podcast on buying land in the hilly areas outside Asheville NC, and some of the pitfalls it could become if the potential client is not informed on the local laws, sewerage access, water access and electrification and foundation cost etc. By the way the real estate competitor is Elena Kovigan. LOL - walking around town at 2 AM. In the Navy we used to say nothing good happens to a Sailor after midnight. 🤣 We used to live on Cape Cod - tourists don't bother me. We love nature - any sharks? Love sharks. OK, cost of living does give me some concern. But comfortable we'll figure that one out. Thanks for another informative video. Looking forward to making the move.

Many people are homeless because the cost of housing and basic living expenses is so high and they are priced out. Not all homeless people are addicts or alcoholics. You better have money if you come to Asheville/

I was recently in downtown on a Monday at 6pm and was accosted twice by aggressive panhandlers on my way to Strada. It was rather off putting and reminded me of the crack epidemic in Boston in the 90’s. Thanks for mentioning this in your video. Bad elements are taking advantage of this city’s good natured people. They really need to figure out something before they ruin things. More police downtown and laws against aggressive panhandling would be a start. I know they have increased patrols late night on weekends now but this doesn’t seem to be enough.

Thank you for your comment, I’m sorry that that happened. It obviously made you feel uncomfortable. I haven’t had that happen to me when I’m downtown but it probably depends on when I was there and what night and just chances. I did not get the impression it was like a crack epidemic though. I try to make videos of downtown to show what it looks like so hopefully people can see that it’s not like Boston in the 90s.

No I wasn’t saying it was like Boston in the 90’s. I was just saying I hadn’t experienced that since Boston in the 90’s. It did conjure up the memory of it though. Such aggressive street people even before dark in a major area of business.

I would just urge the city of Asheville to confront this more head on and not let it get that bad. We have many more homeless where I live now but they are not as embolden and as aggressive as I experienced in Asheville since the Boston crack epidemic in the 90’s when I was accosted on the street regularly. Things can get worse quickly. I think the e city government is rather naive and needs to do more to stop this and the recent wide spread vandalism on cars and buildings.

I was physically threatened in front Strada on a Monday around 6PM. It wasn’t late at night. I hadn’t been drinking. I was going to dinner on a Monday with friends. This hasn’t happened to me anywhere in the US for a long time besides Asheville.

In some places you will find trash on the side of the road but it is not everywhere. Some people experience allergy in the spring with pollen. I don’t so am lucky but some people can be really allergic. We’d we happy to help you all when ready. 😊

Many Many people have moved to Asheville and surrounding cities have moved here from many other states and locations as I did 23 years ago and the migration is not new as my sister, etc... moved here in 1973. Who do you think builders are building the more expensive homes for ????????? Gentryfrication hurts the locals who lived here all there lives. My maternal family is from Asheville, Fairview, Eneyville, Hendersonville and surrounding counties. One does need "money" to live here or you end up in low income housing which sorely lacks and all the "Gentrified Folks" always say "Not In My Neighborhood" !
