Thank you Kate. You explain everything so well without unnecessary fuss or a running commentary on how marvellous life is :-) Your instructions are clear and so calm and you give just enough background to explain why something is necessary. The best videos on warping that I've found.

I just bought an Ashford 32" table loom and was considering a direct warp, which I usually do with my rigid heddle because I am all thumbs when it comes to warping. This demonstration -- all three parts -- looked like a lot of extra work. But the more I watched it, the more it became clear to me that these extra "safety first" steps are very useful and will alleviate some of the problems I have warping ANY loom. Glad I saved these to favorites so that I can refer back to them. Thanks.

I really love this video. Your voice calms me when I'm feeling so intimidated about tying a warp to a raddle. Thank you for making this clear, informative video!!

Such a super helpful video. Thank you. Four of my cross threads got messed up, but everything is wound on, and I think I can correct as all else are properly placed. Fingers crossed.

I wanted to return to this two weeks later. I finished the sampler I wrote about in my last comment, and it looks nice (except I should have used yarn in more contrasting colors). Then I did another sampler using patterns in *A Weaver's Book of 8-Shaft Patterns." Now I am finally using $12.50/skein yarn, and I just wanted to say the process gets easier and easier. Putting the yarn on the raddle took about an hour the second time I tried; now, the fifth time, it took less than a minute. I never did do the tea towel: what I want right now are scarves to give as gifts, yeah.

Dear ReunionNZ, I am not sure what you have done wrong but I am guessing if you are using wool it has a lot more stretch in it and you must be very careful to keep your warp at the same consistent tension when winding. We also have flip book tutorials on our website: Home page - tutorials - weaving flip books - Learn to Weave on the table loom (sorry I can't put a link in this comments field) I hope this is helpful. Kind regards, Kate

Watching this made it so much easier working with a table loom as I have had a floor loom for 10 years. I sold it and I am going to buy a Ashford Table loom 8shaft 32" . Was wondering how many yards can you wind on a table loom

Hi thank you so much for answering my comment/question, yes I am using wool, I was being very careful with tension but I guess not lol I guess I need lots of practice at warping the frame , Yes I got The Ashford Book of Weaving for the Four Shaft Loom as well as the Learning to Weave by Deborah Chandler both great books. I will pop on to the Ashford site and have a look at the tutorials. Again Thank you for answering me. Take Care Stay Safe Bebe

Hi Kate. I have a warping question. On your demo you mentioned "don't worry about the threads between the raddle cross and the end pick because they tend to get a little messy. Is that also true between the beginning peg and the thread cross, or do all the threads need to be going in the same direction (no threads crossed between the thread cross and the start peg). I have accidently crossed some of them in the beginning. Do I need to remove the warp and begin again??

I just got my 1st. table loom (8 shafts) and I’m beginning to learn. So: do you always have to cross twice? In some videos they cross only once
@bettieshea2782 жыл бұрын
It isn't essential. Personal preference. Saves you having to count all the bits going into the raddle because you've already done it. I just do the counting at the raddle stage rather than during the warp winding. You count either way!

Women have made this way to complicated. I'm not going to pay a $1000.00 for a loom that doesn't provide all the gagits needed to warp it. I bet I could design a much simpler loom.
@thoughtyness7 жыл бұрын
Ernest Wilson Go right ahead! My loom was a 16-shaft table loom for $900. I built me own reddle from a 1x2 strip board and some finishing nails. I also made my own warping board from some more strip board, a dowel, and glue. However, the loom is the best design possible. Any attempt to make another would fail due to lack of supply AND demand. I hope you succeed in making a table loom yourself, but please keep in mind the current design has been perfected over thousands of years. Btw when I got my loom I was an 11yo boy. Not a woman.
