6:04 the monarchy you're talking about were shahs who ruled the whole Nepal for 250 years till it got abolished in 2008. But these historical places that you're visiting were built by the mallas(newar kings) who rulled the valley before the shahs. And newars are the original inhabitants of the Kathmandu valley. All the historical places, temples and palaces you are visiting are in Newari architecture and were built by the Newars long before the shahs annexed the valley.

mall were not newar kings, they were kings of newa people (raiti), but were of bihari/tirhut/mithila origin and spoke maithili langauge. and newas are not original inhibitants of kathmandu, newa is a comminunity that formed after the gorkhali invaded kathmandu. before gorkhali rule only a few castes would call themselves newas. the identity as linguistic group (its not an ethnicity) developed only after gorkha invasion. also those are malla and lichhivi architecture to be historically correct, newa craftsmen were working for those kings as serfs most probably.

@@yetigumba It doesn’t matter where the Licchavis or Mallas came from. what truly matters is the sense of community. Newar isn’t just an ethnicity, it’s a community, a civilization. Even though the Shahs annexed the valley, they never truly won the hearts of its people. They made no attempt to assimilate into the existing Newar community and instead remained distinct throughout their reign. In contrast, the Mallas and Licchavis adopted the Newar language and culture, becoming Newars themselves rather than imposing their own. They chose to assimilate rather than dominate, integrating into the civilization they governed.

@@yetigumba and newar was always a community. It didn't form after the gorkha invasion. There are newa Muslims and even there were newa christians before PNS exiled them. Anyone who lived in the valley and spoke Nepal bhasa(newar language) and practiced the culture and the customs of here were nepami/newa/nepali.

the first dish you had is typically palpali local food (west Nepal) Batuk(made of lentils) also known as bara in palpa and chukauni( curd, potatoes and spices). these dishes are only from palpa(west nepal district). If you travel anywhere within palpa, you will end up having these two dishes.

If somebody wants to know ancient history and cultures of Nepal then they must come in Valley. But yes of coarse, after unification, rest of the ethic group`s cultures are also the real cultures of Nepal.
