Ashkenazy is a real Genius...incredible pianist and interpreter....no enough words to describe how much is he great...!! All his fingers "touch" become "pure gold"...!!
I love these recordings by Ashkenazy of these fantastic pieces. I particularly love his version of Scherzo No.4 - so masterful, technically in total control but never going over the top, telling a story but with so much emotion and sheer beauty.

IMHO, Maestro Ashkenazy plays the finest interpretations of Chopin and Rachmaninoff works. And he is no slouch with Beethoven. Although he definitely has the technical chops to create shock and awe...he always plays in the true Romantic spirit -- pure taste, which refrains from pyrotechnics, while providing the proper emotional weight, nuance and contemplative gravitas. Simply sublime.

You are absolutely correct. I have a Large collection of Ashkenazy CD,s and love all of them. Best regards.
Among the very best versions of the 4 scherzi. Ashkenazy brings drama, poetry and flawless technical mastery to these colourful works.

Why there is no comment at all? So splendid Mr. Ashkenazy performed. I have heard Michelangeli's op.31, Horowitz's op.20, etc. His is definitely among the best!!

I like these very much, along with Horowitz, Rubinstein, and (surprisingly) the utterly unknown Alice Hwang (which I recommend everyone try - I mean the studio recordings, not live from the US Chopin competition, which isn't as good).

I really love Trull's playing but I wish the recordings of her on KZbin weren't such poor quality. I think the best recording I've heard was part of a PBS documentary on the Tchaikovsky Comp. from the 80s. If you try to search for CDs etc there's almost nothing there.

Natalia Trull is the best in Chopin 1 scherzo second to none.An amazing Rosa Tamarkina an unbeatable playing Chopin scherzo no 3 the most fierce furious version ever

Listened to Trull: nothing special, and very unrhythmic. Tamarkina was a bull-in-a-china shop with her exaggerated speeds, and lack of any tonal colour, but I suppose there are those who, like with pop music, prefer undirected energy and power to musical expression and passion.
