I agree about the court coverage and forehand, but there's players on the wta with better slices: Hsieh, for instance. Radwanska if she hadn't retired, would also be better in that department. I think Barty overuses the slice. Even with the current field, she will be found out next year as players find ways to nullify her slice backhand, but I do hope she does well at the Aussie Open. Australia has suffered enough with very good players not winning in their own backyard over the years..

I never get tired of watching Barty's tennis - she plays with brain and finesse, and wins. So many tools in her bag and very unpredictable. Outstanding around net. And, that best sliced backhand. Actually her volleying, overhead put aways and court coverage have not been talked about much. Barty should start believing she can win even if she is not hitting aces. Directing more kick serves at opponents can throw them off balance. I believe she can be more dangerous and unpredictable in 2020 by approaching the net more often.

My two favourite players in the draw and sad one had to lose. Both ladies play intriguing tennis, especially Ashleigh’s game and i have a permanent grin on my face when I watch them. It is not all about power but technique and skills and speed and clever play. This mix that both women show has reinvigorated women’s tennis. I love Venus and Serena, but they need to add more o this kind of play to their games as these younger players have figured out how to overcome strength, speed and power play. How Ashleigh failed to win Wimbledon 2019 is still puzzling to me. She is truly a worthy number 1, regardless of only having won 1 major. Well done WTA for putting on such a tasty spread this week. I have been lying in my bed and waited for the highlights to appear which have kept me royally entertained. Thank you all ladies of the 2019 WTA Final. Well done. I enjoy seeing one-handed play coming back to be the norm for tennis. I saw two-handed first used by Cris Evert against Martina way back in the day& I was surprised at how she was allowed to use that repeatedly! I expected her to be penalized...everyone started doing except for the Europeans. For me , tennis should be played one-handed, the idea being that the racket was an extension of your arm. That's what I loved about Amelie Mauresmo, Francesca Sciavone, Justine Henin's & a few that could pull it off. Two-handed tennis seemed like baseball. This match btwn Barty & Svitolina showed that. A great match it was indeed! Grace, precision, speed, power,& no grunting!

I find it funny that the WTA loves to push the whole 'equal pay' message yet this tournament is giving out more prize money than the ATP final. Seems like equal pay is only an issue when men are getting more money. PS: This just creates a larger gap between the top 8 players and players on the other end who struggle to get from one tournament to the next.
@Balladhoe5 жыл бұрын
Deus Ex Machina Thé equal pay message is for grand slams and tournaments where men and women compete at the same time (Indian Wells and Miami) The WTA NEVER meddles with what the ATP tournaments offer to the men. For example there are many ATP 500 tournaments that give way more prize money than the premier tournaments on the WTA but nobody is fussing over it because the tours are different. Don’t demonise one over the other. Women aren’t fussing without reason and Men are certainly not at the losing end in this case...

Ash is number one she beat Svitolina for the first time. Ash is incredible so much variety. She is a pocket rocket. She is small but has an amazing serve.

I don't think the WTA will be happy that Elina lost, I guess they can always arrange for Elina to play Venus in any upcoming tournaments. I bet think that will make Elina feel better.

I don't think that the slice is a great tactic against Svitolina, hence why she used it far less today than she usually does. On a slow court like this it can give Elina too much time to get to it...

Andrew Mark she slice it mostly to svitolina forhand . To get a short ball because svitolina forhand is weak like WozNakci

Already in the semifinals, Ashleigh was ready for anything! But I was worried about Elina ...

Svitolina does not seem to have grown or added anything new to her game. Her stagnations maybe due to the fact that she played so many tournaments without taking a step back to examine her previous loss and learn from her mistakes. Barty did so which is why she won.
