Analyzing the concept & lyrics of this album is insane cause of the references!! Alkaline “She’s not acid nor alkaline Caught between black & white Not quite either day or night She’s perfectly misaligned” The ph levels of acid is anything below 7, alkaline is anything above 7. The only substance that is perfectly in between is water, which is the album’s theme. Alkaline is the 7th song on the album, and perfectly in center of the three album trilogy. In Greek mythology, the god Hypnos is the personification of sleep who lives in a cave in the underworld only accessible through large bodies of water. The river Lethe (forgetfulness) runs from his cave is known to be where day and night meet. The river would erase the memory of whoever would drink from it. The fact that he thought out the lyrics and album concept that far is absolute genius! 💖

I always liked the line “if anything, she’s an undiscovered element” which I thought to mean that she’s kinda unknown, or in between as far as feelings go. It wasn’t until listening a bunch that I remembered that any undiscovered element that is “found” is very highly likely to be unstable due to the high number of protons. So, I now take that line as “oh, there’s a very likely chance she’s unstable” packaged up as another lyric to display the “not acid nor alkaline” message of indifference.

The love you want music video explains alot, they don't have many music videos but the one for that is excellent. Vesselettes sing with him live and they are wonderful! Whether you interpret the lyrics based on the lore or your own experience etc...vessel has you covered.

I think it’s very cool how people have different ideas about what these songs mean. I have a feeling that his general aim is to talk about the form of love and self deception and elation and pain. I know people talk about sleep or some relationship but I think he’s talking about the spirits we’re “possessed” by. It’s difficult to lay out exactly what I mean. I don’t mean “The idea of love” But love as an actual spirit that moves us through life. Any who. I know I’m rambling. Great series here.

Fall For Me has such Imogen Heap vibes. I’m curious if it’s a tip of the cap with them both being from the UK. She kinda created that sound with that strange instrument. Also so many nods to chemistry in their music so putting Alkaline in the middle and the possible tipping point of the album from acid to base is such a cool idea.

I wouldn’t say the girl who he writes these songs about is lucky considering the fact majority of ST’s songs are about a toxic relationship 😭 I mean, The Love You Want (the song you said that during) is about a relationship where Vessel and his ex had obviously split and he’s saying “you want love, I still have it.” The whole “too many swallowed keys will make you bleed internally” line goes back to the “seems your heart is locked up and I still get the combination wrong” line, and he’s essentially saying “you left me, I did my best to give you that love, but it was to no avail. Try it with too many others, and you’ll just get hurt in the end”

To me, the sleep stuff is not even a thought really. Tbh, it seems like an afterthought for them as well (obviously I would not know). These are about a woman and a relationship they had. Here’s my take, albeit a grim one: a sleep token is a razor. Just my thoughts, coming from an adult in their 30s. Watching sleep token reaction videos serve as a nice break from mundane office work, so thanks for these!
