I got engaged to my husband after four months, married three months later. It's worked out, and 21 years later, we're happy as could be, but it took a lot of work on both our parts. We just married too soon.

Thanks for covering this. As a former victim of domestic violence, I'm internally divided on this. I'm wondering if Doug wasn't the victim and Ashley was gaslighting *him*, making him look like the guilty one. My abuser had me arrested, and I'll admit to acting really badly when he had me panicked from his abuse (slamming me against walls with my arm twisting behind my back, etc.) But no one believed me that he was doing what he did, and he was careful to never leave a mark. And my abuser turned all our friends against me after I left. It didn't matter. I'd moved out of state to get away from him, which was the first step to healing.

That’s why I think it’ll be an interesting trial as the evidence comes out. I’ve seen people with opinions on both sides.

I am DV survivor too. This Ashley was barely with this guy!!! I think she is a woman who slashes DV allegations for those who really are the victims. Men in court automatically don’t believe many true victims due to women like this

@@Bevaboo I do not believe she was abused. I was in that kind of relationship. He did not hit her. He yelled and threw objects but not at her. Sorry, I think she just wanted his money.

Wow. That's the story of my marriage. Even down to being arrested because I looked "angry". I lost my friend group because of the lies he told them, and his entire family treats me like I don't exist. After 15 years of marriage, he was the one having an affair and a baby with his "girlfriend." Ididn't find out until 9 days after our divorce. They're great to my family, just not me. He would like me to fall off the face of the earth, and it kills him that I'm still here.

Thank you for following this case. I think she tried manipulating him and won him over in their 13 day courtship. Her first goal was starting the ballet company, but could not/would not see it through, so she accused him of trying to poison her. She must have thought she could past the tests for poisoning but failed at that too. Her mental stability was very questionable in that one day she would tell him she wanted to stay with him and the next day she did not want to be with him. Since she ran out of options, her only other choice was to kill him. All of this is in my opinion, but as you can probably tell, I don't believe the shooting was in self defense.

This case all around is incredibly hard to comprehend. What was going on with Ashley? Was she mentally ill with all the paranoia about being poisoned? Or was she totally manipulative and married him for money? And what possibly was the motive for shooting? What did she have to gain? I wish there was more info on Ashley’s background and history. I guess the trial will answer some of these questions!

His attorney theorizes may because she had exhausted all of her legal options, there in Florida regarding the child. It’s going to be interesting to see what’s allowed and as far as the incidents prior such as him firing a hole in the ceiling which he admitted to. That could work in her favor. On the other hand, There are a lot of allegations that law-enforcement never were not able to verify so I’ll be curious to see if that affects her credibility in the eyes of the jury. I think there’s going to be things that come out in trial that are not known that may shed more light on things. Such as text messages, etc.. I’m currently researching what the judge has ruled can come in at trial and what cannot. I know she was denied a stand your ground defense because she was asking for the case to be dismissed on that.
