Came here after watching another video of a guy tying the knot, except his camera was facing him instead of over his shoulder. Hard to copy what he did in reverse. This was so much better, and presented well. Thanks.

Also excellent as a knot for the end of guitar or ukulele strings when pegs are used in the bridge - this knot is less likely to pull through than a figure 8 knot -thanks for the easy method

The Ashley is my favorite stopper knot. I find it holds tighter and is much bulkier than other commonly used stopper knots, such as the double-overhand or a figure-8, both of which often loosen up. This is a tricky knot for beginners to learn, but it's worth it. I've used it for other purposes such as keeping a drawcord from getting pulled through an eyelet, binding a spiral notebook with cord, etc. There's an easier way to tie this, it's hard to explain, but I'll try: Make 2 loops that are facing each other, mirror-image, like what a girth hitch looks like. Pass one loop through the other, then pull the free end through that loop and tighten. As shown here: www.animatedknots.com/ashleystopper/

I agree with Evo Spec. Animated knots has a quality tutorial on how to tie this knot, but it's very convoluted, no pun. This method of yours is simple and straight forward. It suggested to me that it's just a simple slip knot with a twist (no pun) at the end.

Interesting, but can someone tell me what the advantage of using this knot over a barrel knot is?
@WheeliePete9 жыл бұрын
+Liam Elliott The flatter face with the main line going directly up the center of the trefoil will resist pulling through an obstacle better than a barrel type knot, and it unties easier after being loaded in my experience.
