Man thank You so much! I have some dreams to have a team of ppl in the future helping me so that this would be more sustainable and I could simple launch videos more often. So any donation / patreon small or big is amazing since I can dump all of that back into this project! And sometimes share with ppl who helped me on short term basis for now :)

Just wanted to say that your instruction on these is exceptional. I wish I had you when I was in rookie school. Very masterful job. Even today after all my experience and years in, have never witnessed such a great teaching on these. Thanks!

fun story: I learned belaying with the munter hitch and didnt realize that it was really uncommon that people would not use a belaying device. When I moved cities and went to a new climbing gym I had to learn belaying again with an instructor. I would say everyone should learn how to use it in case of an emergency. With this hitch it is even more important to always keep your hand at the rope or else it wont stop.

Great video. Can i add that as far as i'm aware a two turn (double overhand) stopper knot loop is called a poachers knot, a three turn (triple overhand) is called a scaffold knot. A klemheist pulled upside down turns into a hedden hitch and works just as well, maybe slightly smoother in operation.

btw, i was just playing around with the knots and techniques shown (thanks again! :) ) and when doing the scaffolding knot tying it around a something (the last method you show of it), its possible running the standing part of the rope through it with a bite, making it a quick release knot, instead of, as u point out, a knot that can be pretty difficult to get opened back up. It might bring down the strength of the knot though, so everybody should think for themselves, and use it as it is fit.

19:00 I read in knot reference book that you can also wrap a carabiner along with the rope when making a Klemheist (with the flat side of the carabiner next to and parallel to the rope). Then when the Klemheist is finished, you can use the carabiner as a handle to move the Klemheist knot up and down along the rope.

A great super-practical use of a double fisherman knot is to make a belt out of utility cord for your chalk bag. This way, if you are in a pinch, you can remove your chalk bag, and you are left with some cord. Especially useful if you, like me, have a habit of dropping your autoblock :)
@HardIsEasy
@HardIsEasy Жыл бұрын
How are you gonna remove the chalk bag from you? Square knot is a good one to know for tieing quickly something and untieing easy :)
@SincerelyBradley
@SincerelyBradley Жыл бұрын
@@HardIsEasy the great thing about a double fiserhmans is that it slides by moving the two knots away from each other. So i just step into the loop, and tighten! you only need to actually remove it if you are in a pinch!
@joshz6975

@@SincerelyBradley yeah but for something intended to be untied, there's better knots than the double fisherman's, Double fisherman's tends to cinch up on itself really hard.
@stikphysh
@stikphysh Жыл бұрын
@@HardIsEasy I do this with my chalk bag and tend to use an overhand bend. I find it holds better than a square knot, which can loosen when it's not under tension and the overhand bend is easy to untie since it doesn't get tightened too hard when used with a chalk bag.
@jaredasa626
@jaredasa626 Жыл бұрын
@@SincerelyBradley I'm "knot" sure that this makes sense. You cannot secure the loop at a shorter length without retying one of the double overhands. Also, why are you explaining how the knot works to the guy who just made an excellent video about how the knot works?

just finished watching all the episodes on the masterclass so far, really amazing in depth but easy to grasp stuff. this has really elevated my understanding of how everything works and will help me climb and belay with more confidence but at the same time be a lot more aware of potential dangers i had no idea existed before. I feel like youd have to pay an instructor a lot to learn all of this stuff and even then it would need to be a dream instructor for them to go into this level of depth and make it so digestible, so honestly really appreciate this. The Münter is also possible: so instead of grabbing the opposite strand, grab the front strand in the same manner and it becomes a münter. Q: Hitches for rappel, above the tuber or below the tuber? I have my reasons for preferring one way over the other.
