Mom, although there is a component of wanting yo feel good, the addict eventually continues to use in order to prevent withdrawl. By the third day, you havent slept, you are severely dehydrated from unrelenting vomiting/diarrhea, your stimach and legs are continuously cramping, your anxiety is off the wall..... All you have to do is pick up your phone to have an opiate delivered in 20 minutes. Its a crazy world. My condolances for you loss of your beautiful daughter.

I’m sorry for her loss. We need to consistently educate others to the dangers of taking drugs. With that being said, may I explain that OxyContin is not a stimulant. It is a central nervous system depressant. What is does do is stimulate the opoid receptors found in the central nervous system that activate responses such as respiratory depression which ultimately the brain tells the respiratory system to slow down even to the point of ceasing respirations resulting in death. I hope that makes sense. Opioids all act on the central nervous system so respiratory failure can often occur. OxyContin and illicit fentanyl together is surely a death trap. Let’s keep on advocating and hope for a better change. 🙏🏼

Yes! Reading that made me determined to get sober. A lot of people think people with SUDs can’t get sober, but we have usually tried so many times, and seen so many people give up on us, and look down on us, we lose hope. My recovery started with someone who listened, asked good questions about my history and abuse, and said it made perfect sense to her, why I did the things I’d done in life. She also said I would make a good counselor, when I said I wished I could help people, like she does. She was the only treatment counselor who really listened and got to the bottom of what happened, and she got me through the beginnings of my recovery. Then, I really wanted to help others. I mean, I always did, but I didn’t believe I could do it, like I did after treatment. I had seen good counseling and human service work in action. I had already done human service work, but had never seen someone care about people with substance use disorders. That made me more determined to do that. Yet, I still really struggled, so I’m glad my plan of action was to go back to school! There, I learned how addiction affects the brain, and about how in 3 years, it would get much easier. I couldn’t imagine going through what I was for another year (at that point), but knowing I was probably through the worst of it and would be healed at the end made me determined to try! It’s been 7 years, now! I am still struggling to finish school because I don’t qualify for any financial aid, but I refuse to give up, because I’ve fought harder battles!

What a beautiful story about your flight. I believe your daughter was with you, and still is! I have been in the presence of my relatives I have lost to fentanyl and alcohol. I know it was them! I heard one of my guardian angels going about her regular, nightly routine around the house, and it was so familiar, I didn’t remember she had died, until I couldn’t hear her anymore. It was not a memory, or a hallucination. I wasn’t grieving hard, at the moment. I was caring for my sick pet, who I found out was terminal the next morning, after a 4.5 year struggle with kidney failure. I think my loved one knew I would need to know they don’t really leave us forever. This may sound crazy, but my son worked in nursing homes, and many workers report similar experiences. I think you were with your child on the plane, and I think she is with you, still. I’m sorry you can’t interact with her like you used to, because she was taken from this world too soon. ❤

When I search about weed being laced with fentanyl, pretty much everything said buring destroys fentanyl so there is no risk. I am not sure what to think. The only place I can think to ask is here. Thank you!
@TexasPicturesАй бұрын
We haven't found a clear answer. Fentanyl can be smoked, but differently from how weed is smoked - more like freebasing. Many marijuana defenders are quick to point out that the high heat of a joint destroys fentanyl. However, only one end of a joint has flame, the other is cool to touch. In between, the contents are heated gradually as the flame draws closer with every hit. Also, we’re talking about something that you put in your mouth and suck on, then inhale. Ever get a bit of leaf in your mouth? It isn't likely that producers are adding fentanyl to weed. There's no economic benefit for producers to add a step to their process. However, their product does pass through other hands before reaching the actual user.
@sciencenotsrigmaАй бұрын
@@TexasPictures. I have actually smoked it in a crack pipe, because I didn’t have tinfoil, which it is commonly smoked off of. It worked, and it didn’t burn it up. I am 7 years in recovery, but I know someone whose son smoked weed and she tried to get him to go to the hospital. He became groggy, started nodding (passing out), and had pinned pupils…which she knew to look for because she is also in recovery. I believe her. He got through it, but I wish she could have brought him to the hospital, so we would know. Also, because he could have been in danger. However, I do understand…he is a young adult, and you can’t force an adult to get treatment, against their will. A lot of people with substance use disorders don’t seek treatment for poisoning out of fear that they will be arrested or their PO will be called, if on supervision. Of course, the other possibility is that he took something else he didn’t tell her about, though she doesn’t believe he did.
@ashleychung8934Ай бұрын
Fentanyl can definitely be smoked. I smoked it when I was in active addiction. I believe it is cross contamination that is causing the fentanyl to end up in the weed. There was a video of a lovely woman, I can’t remember her name at the moment, but she lost I believe 9 of her friends/loved ones from fentanyl poisoning from it being in weed.

Prayers and condolences, it must be horrible pain just losing anyone is hard but something that could’ve been prevented kind of hits different. When they did the huge cut back on legal opioids it made very big business for illegal the street versions and they use fentanyl for reasons I don’t know because if you kill your customers how do they make money? I’m not special I’ve been around people who did drugs and was even offered some but I never tried any not even a cigarette. But now with a several auto immune diseases and a back injury I’m on opioids even with that I couldn’t overdose if I wanted because they make me itch they do help with the pain but not always. A distant family member died of fentanyl poisoning from 1 pill. But those of us who actually need pain meds that otc doesn’t help are being punished because of those who abuse it. I had to find a pharmacy with the dose I needed or take a weaker dose. So the government had good intentions but anything they do the streets can do also except the dealers aren’t educated so now people are dying🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
@sciencenotsrigmaАй бұрын
No, pain patients aren’t being punished because of those who abuse it. I am a pain patient and I feel your pain, but that’s a story that Purdue executives have now admitted to circulating, to cover their own behinds. There have been lawsuits because of overprescribing and aggressive marketing. Even though you and I need pain treatment, pills were aggressively marketed to people who didn’t, or who didn’t need higher doses. OC doesn’t really last 12 hours, and misleading, flawed research was used to secure a patent, The company knew patients were taking medication more often than prescribed to try to get pain relief. This is all on court record and many medical journals, at this point. A good video to start with is Opioids, Inc. You will hear the same things I’m saying from Purdue executives, in it. I can’t tell you where to find it because citations aren’t allowed and my comments have been deleted, but let’s just say you won’t have to look far. Patients were scapegoated for the problems with Purdue’s products and marketing scheme. Substance Use Disorder is also a legitimate condition people suffer from, it’s not about bad people. Patients need to band together to fight for all our rights…we are allies. I understand you have good intentions, and I sympathize with your situation!

Mom you're absolutely correct about how opiates affect the brain. But there is a healing process it is time away from taking opiates,no Suboxone,no methadone absent from all opiates. It takes about 1 year if you have been using it for a long time and using about a half a gram a day. You can use Suboxone for a month or methadone and tapper off. Then when your tapper off you need to stay in treatment for 6 months to a year. Then your natural feelings start to come back. Antidepressants may work but you have to find the right one. You can come back from opiates abuse as long as you're alive. Take care and keep talking about her story to save lives.

@PragueMom20 күн бұрын
@deanawells4395 Thank you. Your one sentence brought me yet one more bit of insight into the difficulties of quitting. Addiction, for my son, first entered via painkillers administered in a helicopter within an hour of an accident at work, September 2006, two months shy of his 19th birthday. Against odds, he survived; worked & played a productive, active life, addicted, for more than a decade. A sharp decline his last year. He suffered excruciating pain whenever he stopped taking oxycontin. And then, without consideration what to do for addicted patients, the Feds & courts cut off the LEGAL supply. Meanwhile patients & doctors, brainwashed that oxycontin wasn't "that addictive" were like, "So what's the problem! You weak?" My daughters remember their brother suddenly cut off from [legal] oxy. Years later, April 2022, he was murdered via a "hot shot," the preferred method of assassination for someone with a history of drug use, because that way "everyone" assumes it to be an overdose. Short-staffed police departments would prefer it be so. It lessens the workload. But on Easter Sunday on the way back from church, one week prior his death, he made the comment to his older sister, "So. Have you heard about the murders? ... eleven." And that's in a county, population around 77,000. We figure him to be telling us without telling us that he was at risk to be murdered. He knew we would all jump in with both feet and be at risk were we to attempt to protect him. After he died, despite submitted evidence, no investigation. Wouldn't bring him back anyway and would only bring danger to family who still lived here. In hindsight, family was what Brad was protecting. Why would we push now only to be put at risk and neutralize his sacrifice. As one detective said, even if it was HIS own kin and he pulled out all the stops, he wouldn't be able to trace the source. The day his obituary appeared in the newspaper, the headline: the arrest of half a dozen members of the local drug cartel with contacts from the Pacific Northwest to San Jose California to Mexico City. So now we're cut off from him; yet, our hope is to see him with Jesus. Thanksgiving fell on his birthday last year, just 19 months after his passing. It's surreal to be counting the months since his death similar as when I once counted the months since his birth. WE are who now remain, with pain. But also with hope for our beloved Brad, 1987 - 2022 - Eternity ....

How thoroughly foolish to share an opiate with young people. I remember parents spiking the punch at a 16 year olds birthday party so the other kids could party. That was dumb but pills can be worse even. What I can't get over is the variation in response to opiates based on your personal genetic make up and chemistry. I got no euphoria whatsoever after accidentally taking the 2 oxycodones my oral surgeon had prescribed just in case. Nothing positive whatsoever and it just made me drowsy. My mother also took Oxycodone for at least a year until she had back surgery. She came off the pain meds within a few weeks of the surgery with no problems. I also see no appeal to alcohol. When I had a little too much it just made me goofy.

I've noticed in 90% of these videos, they never take responsibility. Always blaming others, "the bad crowd", etc..

When a storyteller says something like, “they started hanging out with a bad crowd“ they might be criticizing the loved one’s decision to join that crowd. Assuming the storyteller is blaming the crowd rather than the choice indicates projection.

What?! They’ve never heard of fentanyl? My veterinarian prescribed fentanyl for my dog for her ACL surgery. The vet wrote the prescription and I hand-carried it to the Walgreens pharmacy. That was 12 years ago. Where do you live??

They’re lying to you, it’s common for cancer patients to get fentanyl patches for pain especially terminally ill patients. My father received fentanyl for lung cancer that metastasized to his brain. It was so strong to him he told doctors he’d rather take a Tylenol bc it was too strong for him. There’s medicinal fentanyl and there’s illicit fentanyl big difference though. Illicit fentanyl is do powerful one pill, one snort of it can possibly kill 4-5 men.

They’re certainly lying to you, hospitals use medicinal fentanyl for cancer patients. They just didn’t want to prescribe it to you. It comes in time release patches, and liquid form in hospitals. It was used on my father, who hated it bc he thought it was too strong for him. He requested a Tylenol for pain, mind you part of his skull had been cut out bc his brain began to swell. His lung cancer metastasized to his brain.

You won't ever suffer from drug poisoning if you don't take street purchased drugs. Even candy sold on the streets. . You cant blame someone else for killing you if you go seek out street dealers. You must be smarter than that.

We are very lucky that as yet fentanyl isn’t in Australia. Sorry for your loss
@Mr.NettaizmysusSirNettaizmysusАй бұрын
It’s there you’re just not aware of it. Just encountered an addict from Australia 🇦🇺. It’s EVERYWHERE IN ALL COUNTRIES, there is medicinal fentanyl as well.
