Matthew 5:2-12
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons[a] of God.
10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

This is no different when people put pressure on us to be a Proverbs 31 woman. I’ve heard this so many times, yet not one person mentions that she had servants - not singular, but plural. I too could be so much more of a Proverbs 31 woman if I had servants. God gave us individual fingerprints, even identical twins, which tells me just how unique we all are. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. I am in my 60’s, and I have learned a lot from you and Taylor over the last couple of years. I have ADHD, and spend a lot of time down rabbit holes (especially when it comes to studying the Bible), and things like your prayer journaling has given me a framework to organise my chaotic mind. So thank you for being uniquely you, and we account to God, not trends.

Amen 🙏🏻 Thank you for this message sister. A year ago I meet Jesus again and I removed my presence from social media, I noticed how much pride and envy that was growing on me. And recently I told God that I missed to be “seen”. And then within minutes I was listening to a worship song that said “I don’t need to be recognized by anyone, my glory is to make you known, I will decrease you so you can increase Lord.” 😭❤️🙏🏻 I got my answer. That’s why we are here. He is the reason.

I am just an older girl - at 50 - who loves Jesus. Your words are true and what a great message. Thank you. All/Most the “That Christian Girl” gals I’ve known over my life - through youth group, Christian high school and college (and even those early Christian 2000’s Christian influences like Jen Hatmaker and Glennon Doyle, for example) who were loud and proud in their Christian walk have gotten divorced, had affairs, left the church, caused others to stray, etc. I’d rather just be me, love Jesus and grow in my walk with Him, than ever try to meet the standards of something that can so easily become an idol.

This was a wonderful video for all the young ladies. When I was younger I wanted to fit in with the crowd that was the "In" crowd. My family didn't have a lot of money but my clothes were stylish because I babysat a lot so I could get the nice clothes, I was never thin enough, I weighed 137 pounds when I graduated and that was never enough, I was constantly trying to lose weight. I took diet pills and hardly ate, I worked out every evening after school. Now that I am older I see how much time I wasted trying to be good enough. I met the man of my dreams when I was 22, he thought I was beautiful inside and out. We were together 35 1/2 years until he died of Lung Cancer in 2021. I loved him and still love him so much even though he is with Jesus. So all of you young ladies please be yourself, no one is perfect, love yourself, and most important of all things love the Lord with all your heart.

Yesterday I was speaking with my friend how toxic “that christian girl” videos can be for us, christian girls… always feeling that we have to have this perfect life and if we skip a day of reading the bible or if we don’t work out then we don’t take care of our “temples” or we are not good enough… There’s no such thing of “that christian girl”… we are all different, we live in different countries and most of the time what applies for me does not apply for another girl… Man, this video is sooo good! Perfectly said that the standard is in the Word, not outside 🥰 Our worth is found in Christ!

This is so needed. That's my whole testimony, I tried to fit in that I went to the depths of despair and hurt and God pulled me out of that place. Praise God! But even as I am trying to make KZbin videos about the lord, I feel like even I'm not fitting in that "THAT Christian girl vibe". There are, not many black women around my age who are on KZbin professing Jesus ( that I know of ). So I felt like I needed to change my character to try to fit in to be "THAT Christian girl". I confess that at times I really try to fit into that mold, this was a good reminder that the "THAT Christian girl" mold is not my goal, Jesus is.

I needed this today. I have been working out and trying to drop weight before the holidays knowing that family members who are smaller than me that will judge me by my size, what I’m wearing and what I eat. This is so timely and is really showing how that thought pattern I have is unhealthy. I appreciate you sharing your heart.

I can 100% relate to you. The majority of my female in laws are size 4's or 6's.(Even my husband's Mom and Grandma are that tiny.) Everytime we go visit my husband's family I feel so self conscious as I am a much bigger size. Right down to your feeling self conscious about what you eat around them. For instance, one of my husband's cousins looked at me then told another cousin, "Good job eating cauliflower and brocolli. I am so impressed." My stomach can be very sensitive to certain vegetables and so I wasn't eating those bc I didn't want to get sick. Anyway, at the time it just made me feel terrible bc it felt as though she was trying to say "you're overweight and you should be the one eating brocolli and cauliflower." Mind you my husband is a very Godly man and doesn't mind that I am heavier than his relatives or even him and loves me for who I am. He sees me workout, watch what I eat, and the weight just stays but he encourages me and loves me the same. It just feels like a spiritual battle everytime I go visit his family. And don't get me started on family picture time. Sadly in the area I live in I feel most Christian women in churches are like his cousin who made the hurtful comment. It feels like church has become a social club where women try to outdo each other in how they look. Which is not what church was meant to be. It breaks my heart. I find it kind of hilarious bc as a middle schooler and high schooler I was teeny tiny and at the time I hated it bc my feet were huge and didn't match my body. Lol My metabolism shutting down and still feeling awkward in my 30s feels like God has a sense of humor. I find myself realizing that my struggles with weight keeps me humble and focused on what is most important: loving God and loving others. When I was "the elusive perfect size 4" in high school I was secretly prideful. I feel like God has taken that away so I am not proud and only am grateful of the fact I am His daughter. I would encourage all of us (myself included) to set our minds on "the things above" and not on that which is fleeting.

I had only gotten to the title of your video and it already made me think about the book of ecclesiastes and the specific section (ecclesiastes 4: 13-16). Once you read the title, it becomes self explanatory "popularity passes away". I love the book of ecclesiastes because it shows us just how invaluable/useless all of these worldly things become when we are trying to live according to the standard of God and not the world. What the world deems to be valuable is always changing and its never consistent. We will always be racking our brains if we are trying to live up to this standard. We will be like a mouse running on a wheel, we will always keep running around and around, only to find out there's never truly an end. I'd like to give this little gem to all who will read this. We DO NOT have to use the world's value system as our standard when God's word is our standard and guess what? That never changes. As much as we would like to be these "ideal beings", God never used ideal people, if you look at their lives in the bible. When we make our walk with Christ more about a "routine" or a fad, then we have taken God off the throne because of our need to conduct all of these rituals we feel we need to do, in order to be complete. God makes it clear in Isaiah 1: 11-15. He doesn't need routines or rituals for us to come to him, if anything he doesn't care about all of that. We don't have to do all of these things to look like "that Christian girl". We will never have it all together and I pray that we as women more specifically would give ourselves grace and freedom from this bondage to the world's way of thinking. Please cut yourselves some slack. You are doing the best that you can and that is absolutely more than enough 🌹💗. This life can be exhausting. You don't have to do it all, all the time. Remember that God's grace is sufficient. You don't have to work yourselves into the ground to prove anything to him because he has already given you his grace(which is something you cannot earn/WORK FOR in your own strength). Love you all. Have a better day 😊💓.

Thank you so much for this video, because I too needed it😭 lately, I have been concerned about my weight loss. I've lost too much weight and I look way too skinny. Thoughts like, I am no longer as attractive like before, I don't look cute anymore, No one's ever gonna like me, have been running through my mind, and I'd get conscious all the time, and what other persons' think of me.... but to be reminded that I am loved and accepted in the Beloved by My Heavenly Father really encouraged and Cheered me up. I am not of this World thus, I live not according to the standards & opinions of this World nor anyone!!! God defines me! Thank you Ashley for this, and congratulations on your marriage!😘 love from South Africa 🇿🇦

THANK YOU for making this video! I was this girl, I was the girl that no one would invite to events or things because I was the "goody Christian girl" that would go and tattle on everyone. That really put me in a spot where I should get rid of this lifestyle because everyone saw me as a goody two shoes and that caused me to not fit into the mold. The more I look back the more I realize how grateful I am to be the girl I was and am because the people that I would have been around would have put me in a worse place in life if I did make the decision to give up on God and fold into people. What I tell the girls in my youth group all the time is that YOU are YOU! God created you for a purpose, and if people give you down the road for living for God, whenever they have that realization and go down a dark road, you will be the one that they come to for advice and prayer, I know because I have been in that situation! Thank you for your honesty and openness!!!

Ashley, thank you so much for this video. This blessed me more than I could ever explain. ❤ Literally put into words of how I’ve felt my whole life. And I’m 26 and still feel like I’ve been chasing the wind of these things. And I know it will never last but friend it’s SO hard. I’m thankful for this channel. Wow. 😭💓💓

This is very encouraging today! I used to feel this way but I don't think about this kind of stuff anymore. The Lord led me away from "chasing after the wind" many years ago and I'm so thankful! GREAT VIDEO! You know what? Its not just for the "girl." Its also for us older folks too. AND not just with peers or society. Also within your family. I gave my hear to the Lord when I was 10 in 1976. I also have 2 sisters who had not. My mother preferred them. My mom was not serving God. My older sister was not serving God. Not even into mid life. My older sister was fun, jokes alot, people loved her and she had money. I was always poor(er) and not as preferred. Mom chose my sister allot over me into adulthood. It took years to understand why. God chose me. He changed me. Not as the world (sister). I was his and trying my best for HIm. Now as an older adult (57) I am very OK with that. Please dont waste so many years chasing the wind (per Ashley :)) even if it blows in your home. You were set apart for something bigger. Praise God.

This was the main reason why I unfollowed so many people on instagram cause I don't want to fall into the trap of lusting over someone else's "seem to be perfect lives" when the truth is they weren't as perfect as they are offline. Its better to fully surrender ourselves with the truth of God's word that we should live in accordance to His will , being set apart instead of fitting in and blending in this world. God created us for His purpose if there is any valid influence that we should follow; it is the word.

Hi Ashley! I always love your encouraging videos but I was never usually one who would comment. But this video, (woww) Ashley, was unbelievably timely and such a great blessing. Thank you for encouraging us/ and reminding us to live up to God's standards and not the world's. Jesus is ultimately who we should be striving to imitate and to be more like every single day. I've grown up constantly feeling the same way of feeling different and never able to be confident in myself. I always felt that the music we listened to, the clothing, our body, our activities, the things that define us in this world were never quite fitting. Im so encouraged to be reaffirmed in His truth! I want to live a life fully fixed on Him alone! He is everlasting and eternal and the world will fade away! Ashley thank you so so much for pointing me back to Christ! Bless you and Johnny! Keep us updated! Much love~

I wish I had this message as a young girl, especially in my teenage years! Although I had a few friends, I never felt like I fit in… not even with my Christian peers. I'm so glad you've made a video about this. I very quickly found myself falling into the trap of "that Christian girl" and I didn't realise how harmful it was until I found myself feeling less-than and like I just couldn't meet the standard that was being set. It was then that I realised just how problematic and toxic this trend could be. Thank you for being exactly who you are and who God made you to be. It's one of the reasons that I love and value CBT so much. Keep doing what you girls are doing! It's making such a difference xxx

Thank you for this video. I've always looked to social media influencers to determine who or what I'm supposed to be like in this life, and tbh I've never thought about who it is that God made me to actually be. I've always been following trends or what's cool and just imitating that and upon watching this, i really sat down and thought, who would I actually be if I wasn't always trying to copy these people I follow on IG. Very interesting and I feel very moved by this word. Thank you for sharing.

Girl, same here. Didn't fit into the popular crowd, my looks were below the standard of some of my peers. My fashion and home decor sense was slightly below the standard. My sense of creativity or capacity for creativity was below my peers. The things I liked were weird or nerdy, i.e. video games, books, theology. I was uncomfortable with makeup, clothes, trends, etc. So relate with what you've said here. I eventually came to the same realization you did. God had to explicitly tell me he liked me the way I am. It was so freeing to realize that I can be myself. I know a few "that christian girl" types, and I have let go of the competition, praise Jesus 🙌
