I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I too went through it gosh 2007. We split up after 37 years of marriage and didn’t divorce right away but we did five years later. It was so hard and I understand all the emotions. Just know it will get better but you take the time you need to get through it and don’t feel like you have to rush yourself to get over it because I agree with what you said it’s like a death and it truly is. It took me a long time, but I found out that it was the right move for me and I am such a better person now. So much happier, not stressed out. Obviously, you have little children. But I did eventually pass through the grief, grow stronger in myself, and find a life partner who turned out to be my greatest blessing of all time. I had no idea this was where I was headed because I was very steadfast to my first commitment of marriage. But I am grateful that through loss came a life better than I dared wish for previously. I'm really sorry about this. The best thing to do is stay civil to each other. If that does not work, you Mama need to set emotion aside. You need to focus on you and the children. Supporting them and being the strong woman I know you are. Sometimes life is better and healthier apart. There's no shame in that. Try to not let the pain taint your self worth. You are the Mother, the caregiver and the Matriarch of your family. Stay strong. You've got this. Stay civil but you need to keep emotions under control. Speak to a therapist to help you navigate. Many years ago, I went thru a divorce. We agreed to nvr speak bad about the other parent to the kids and keep adult problems between us adults. We’ve both since remarried to wonderful spouses, and have been friends for many years now. I was just recently speaking to my eldest son, and he told me that he didn’t appreciate what a gift it was then that we didn’t bad mouth each other when the kids when young until he’d grown up. He told me thank u for making it so easy to for him and his siblings to see their dad and love their dad and his side of the family bc it really made them grow up so well rounded and free of any ickiness. I’m so very glad that my ex and I stuck to our guns and nvr said a bad word to the kids bc it really does matter esp when they grow up and have kids of their own. I wish everyone who gets a divorce could remember that it’s the kids who r the most important, and how u handle the hard times will matter A LOT in the future when they’re grown.
