Food storage is so important. We had a harsh winter. We literally did not go out for 5 months. We ate from our food storage. It was low at the end but we probably had another few days. It was so helpful to be able to stay in.

Because of what we do for a living an work year round but our trucking slows down in the winter for what we haul ive always kept of fully stocked pantry an a few freezers which always us to have plenty till things go on sale or in case such as the pandemic when there has been shortages.taking home an repackaging, taking air out an sealing,freezing and canning...so important when you have a family.

This is so helpful! I have really enjoyed your other pantry and food storage room videos in the past. The way you have everything planned for meals is a total game changer. It makes it so much easier to get an idea of what you really need, but also how to cook and what to eat. Your organization is awesome! Sadly, my house is absolutely way too small to store enough stuff. I don't have a pantry in my house or a garage. It's a stressful issue I have tried to manage over the years. That is one pitfall of keeping a 3 month supply and long term storage; it requires extra space. Of course I have a small amount of what I can fit, without having to stack my extra paper towels in my living room and toilet paper under my bed. In a true time of need I wouldn't care if it was stacked floor to ceiling, but that's so not cute to have on display!

@llkj21213 жыл бұрын
Storing more water than what would be needed for a week or so is not only impractical, but nearly impossible...This family of 6 would go thru one of those 55 gal drums in about a week when you consider what's needed for cooking the dry goods. You're better off having an emergency water filtration device and something to haul water from the nearest river/lake.

So... this makes thing so much more simpler instead of the hundred pages we have in the past. Rotation IS the best. At my church there are some people that can't even hear the names STORAGE. You just made it a lot better. Maybe we can start buying a 3 months supply of two days of the week each month, then on month 4 get what was used. Is that what you suggested? What about those that don't have a good storing place for all of this, what do you suggest?
@ps4peace3 жыл бұрын
I knew a family who placed cases of #10 canned goods vertically behind the couch. On top was a painted piece of wood going the length of the couch. Added some décor plus a place for remotes, etc. I also put letters in front of my dates so I know when it was purchased, when it's Best Buy (or expires) as well as how many purchased &.when opened. Let's ne know how often we go through things. Example: P 7/31/21, B9/22, O 830/21, # of # aka 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 purchased. Also if it's not something you go through all the time, I also put "last" on the last package, so I know I need to pick up more, sooner than later aka like her paper towels. Also rotate old to the front, new in back.

Great job! I have everything on your list, but since our kids are grown we have less stuff to store. I do have to store things for my children and grandchildren who are not preparing for future hard times though. I do like your idea of the seven main meals per week but my husband is so picky he would get upset if he had to eat the same things quite that often. Also, I find that I am able to save my rice in 2 liter pop bottles and they store quite well.

Store what you eat. 2 is 1 and 1 is none. If I need say spaghetti for meal this week. I buy 2 or 3 sauces, noodles and use 1 and put back 2 in storage. Any small amount helps. Store what you eat. Power out would be spaghetti os canned or ravioli. Dont forget a manual can opener. Water, water, water.

Even water can get slimy and go bad over time. How do you know the water in the 55 gallon storage containers will be good 3+ years to come? I want to store water that way. But we don’t have a lot of space. I’m a little hesitant to store up that much water, then one day I go to drink it and it’s nasty. I will feel like a bad provider to my family because I used up so much valuable space for something thats no good now. And we won’t have the water that we need. I’m new to this. So if you have any knowledge and insight about water storage I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! Love your channel! ❤️
@rebekahs89643 жыл бұрын
U might have covered this in your online book, but about the water storage....does the water sitting in the cases or drums tend to get plastic tasting after a while of sitting? I've got a few cases in the past (the gallon water containers) to stock and they tasted plastic after a little while. It must be certain containers are better than others.
@TheMommyLife3 жыл бұрын
Where did you buy the 55gal drums of water?
@ps4peace3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of places online. I know Emergency Essentials has sales every now and then (Be prepared . com). Make sure they're food grade, don't forget pumps/spigots, bung wrench to open/close the caps, how to fill/drain & treatment etc. I had a 55 gal drum put on furniture moving trolley so that it could get to the laundry sink to fill & then basement floor to drain when I rotated it. Sold it due to a move, replaced with a tall 15 gallon drum to put in a closet. There are all kinds of sizes out there too, even fresh water jerry cans. The point is to have some water, even if it's for cooking/bathing.
