@elle1014elle coffee does not have an expiration date in the traditional sense. This is because coffee beans, when stored properly, do not spoil or become harmful to consume. However, coffee can go stale over time, which can affect its flavor. According to studies, the shelf life, if stored properly, can last about 2 years or so, some folks will even freeze it to extend that, but in my experience I found a brick that was 6 years old and it tasted as good as my fresh bag. Also, I could have done that, but we'd be looking at a 2 hour video 🤣

@elle1014elle According to valleyfoodstorage.com, Spam can last indefinitely if stored properly, and doesn't have an expiration date. Instead, cans of Spam have a "best-by" date, which is around three years after the manufacturing date. During this time, the Spam is at its peak freshness and looks and tastes best. After the best-by date, Spam is still safe to eat, but it may change in appearance, taste, or nutritional value.

I miss having a nice abundant prepper pantry like this. After the past two years of being really poor all I have left in my pantry is the long term food storage, beans, rice, lentils, oats, seasonings, and some of the canned food I don’t use that much like canned fruit, tomatoes, and garbanzo beans. If you suddenly find yourself broke af you’re going to appreciate this pantry SO much.

I just made a months worth of dog food, but is need be it is human consumption able. I’m getting ready to teach my son how to can. He has finally shown some interest in preservation because I’ve given him some food that I canned. He found that it’s convenient to make quick meals, cheaper and better than the convenience processed foods.

Store your teas in tins. I use old Christmas tins, just don't use any with rust. I do stock some ground coffee but recently bought a manual grinder and some beans. I have heard that whole beans last much longer than ground and a manual grinder can be used when the power is out.
@GreyManPrepping
@GreyManPrepping 15 күн бұрын
Great idea! So yes, whole bean coffee, generally speaking, has longer shelf life compared to ground coffee because the beans retain their freshness for a longer period of time. That being said, unopened instant coffee "freeze-dried" can last for a significant amount of time, often up to 2-20 years, depending on the packaging and processing methods. Being in a power outage that extends for long periods of time, just adding hot water or even cold water is quick and easy.

Afternoon Grey, I too use shelf stable box milk at home, I don't use a lot of milk, except for cooking or youngest daughter wants some. I do have pasta sauces I bought, but usually can my own...more healthy and actually comes out better tasting. Anyway, your working pantry is looking good. Out at the farm, my goats are producing milk and we have moved over to mostly goat milk, cheese and butter. Lol, my canned fruit section looks about the same, mostly for my young daughter again. I do have a couple citrus trees, but they are not ready to produce, but my pears actually did well this year, canned a lot of those, figs, berries, crabapple...my red delicious apples have not matured yet. Going to have grapes next year as well as blueberries. My loquat trees have produced well this year. Freezing my quail meat, will can soon and my quail eggs are more than we are able to eat out at the farm. Anyway, I use milk crates to hold and separate packages of food. Great video.

Great video. But one suggestion would be to leave your powdered milk in its original packaging. Light degrades milk over time which is why powdered milk is generally packaged in a 5mill mylar bag or cans. Since you’ve already repackaged it, I’d suggest moving the jars into a light free environment, like a black tote or a closet, especially if your plan for them is to be a longer storage item. This will extend the quality of the milk itself.
@GreyManPrepping
@GreyManPrepping 19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip, I could move then over to the closet. My pantry room is pitch black as there is no exterior light that gets in. Only light is when we enter to turn on a light, but that could add to degradation.

For small apts i suggest getting some WOOD bookcases and a 7 ft bookcase 3ft wide 9 in deep will hold 3 months of canned goods for 1 person. You just need a blank wall SOMEWHERE inside the house. Im in public housing and there is zero built in storage. I have 4 7 ft wood bookcases, and 6 plastic sets of shelves plus other storage. Stocking up on bath supplies is just as important. Plastic shelves in the bathroom keeps everything handy and wont mildew. ( my heavy stuff on the bottom, liquid laundry soap, bar soap, bleach ect) next shelf up is smaller items shampoo , dish soap, trash bags, laundry sheets , ect. Next shelf TOWELS AND WASH CLOTHS. ( end is open toliet paper) Top shelf is a big plastic tub with small items that i get on sale, like nxtra mop heads, toliet brush, dish scrubbies, air freshiner, ( hide xmas presents) toothbrush, ruber gloves ect. (This is a 30 gallon tub stored above my head) i keep the lightweight stuff in it and get it down about once a month. I can flip the lid off and drop stuff in without getting it down.

Impressive pantry, I would like to caution you on eating home canned foods from other people. If you don't know them well and/or know their process, you could be putting yourself and your family at risk of botulism. This is even more important if TSHTF and medical care isn't readily available. Many many people don't follow safe canning processes and that's ok for their own family, their kitchen, their rules and all that but since you're just learning you may be unaware. When I started out I followed some canning recipes online that I found out later were not recommended safe canning practice. It ended up being a costly mistake but I take the health and safety of my family very seriously. Lastly, don't bother res a nine that big can of blackbeans, you'll just end up with mush. Maybe instead, make a ton of breakfast burritos or something for the freezer or just break that can down into smaller portions and freeze.

Looks good. Grey tell people to stock up very big potential union strike on the East Coast in September on the dock workers, but it doesn't sound good . Big box Walmart is stock piling massive amounts of orders along with others. And if that isn't bad enough, the Canadian railroad has shut down its estimated cost is 1 billion dollars a day. It's the same one ran by Kansas city USA. Lots of turmoil be prepared.

Thank you for this. Most preppers are somewhat informative, but never provide detailed info or give us a picture of how and what to organize. I’m a visual learner… you can tell me how to make salve and tinctures for the flu and bug bites all day long and I won’t get anything out of it. But if you show me how to be organized and how much to plan for per person on food etc, now THAT is helpful.

You have a great pantry. Not all people will have the opportunity to have back ups at other locations I'm one of those, I do have different locations around my home for preps and I rotate often. I've also instilled my adult children to have at least 3 months back up. Thank you for sharing today I know it's controversial to do that in this day and age but you do help to teach others what sort of things to store. Water has always been an issue to store for my family lack of space but I do keep the recommended and then some at home. 😊

I love your pantry and you've really got a good variety. I'm struggling with the stacked buckets in the closet too and I am contemplating building heavy duty wood shelves in the closet to accommodate them and improve access. If I can add a couple of tips: I buy a lot of #10 cans like your black beans, make a large batch of chili or whatnot to portion and prep into freezer meals for a quick heat and go option. It's cheaper to buy in the bulk cans and saves time on those days when you don't feel like cooking. Save the pressure canner and jars for processing your dried beans instead of breaking down the #10 cans. For the cream of soup base, you can quickly make your own using dried milk and bouillon powder and seasonings you already have in your pantry. There are a ton of recipes for different kinds. I made a few from Mary's Nest when she posted them on YT a year or two ago. My pantry has a dedicated portable A/C unit but keep an eye on the humidity in the room. I realized recently that it was quite humid when I bought a humidity sensor. Even though the unit is supposed to keep humidity in check, it really can't keep the room below 75%. It might be prudent to get a separate dehumidifier unit especially with you being in Florida.

Thank you for the tour, I learned a lot. One suggestion though, I've watched many prepper pantry tours, and every single one shows the close up of their shelves while discussing the items, but no one, or nearly no one shows a panned out view of their room. We who have very small homes, whether it is an old home, mobile home, apartment, etc need to see the dimensions of the room in relation to how the shelving fits into a room and the space it takes. It would be a tremendous help for us in organizing our own prepper pantries in a small space. Just give us a view of the pantry from the doorway. Once again, thanks for the tour of your pantry.

Thank you for the pantry tour. We are a high allergy household so I have honey that isn't local. I tend to get orange. My oldest can't eat tomatoes or my middle daughter, any strawberries or bananas so I have them but alternatives too. I like Victoria brand for pasta sauce but have squash sauce for my oldest. We have a garden and many seeds. I have lots of canned veggies and meat. I don't eat most meat but I do eat chicken and fish. I have canned bread and pancake mix. I have a variety and cover all food groups. I am diabetic but like honey sometimes. It is great in tea if you have a sore throat along with honey so I keep powdered lime, lemon and orange. I have the same shelves you have but not much space so under the bed they go. I had a mouse visitor in the every day pantry while I was I was in Europe so it was cleaned out and replenished with our snacks etc. I figure we will be fine. I like mushrooms but canned are not great so my daughter squeezes out the water and they taste better. I keep a paper making screen should I run out of toilet paper. I worked at a paper mill years ago. Paper requires so much water to make. I actually love canned corn and green beans.
