I love to save money by cutting my 7 and 4 year old’s hair every couple months instead of taking them somewhere. The savings feels so good and I feel like I’ve gained some new skills! My boys love it so much now they now ask me for haircuts. 😄

Whenever I get home I empty my wallet of coins into a jar, as I have a thin wallet and it bothers me. That way I save without realising it. It's also fun and rewarding to count the savings when it's time to empty the jar! You'd be surprised how much you can save and how easy it is ☺️

Probably not popular in the realm of minimalism, but I buy food in bulk (and I don't mean Costco where you have to pay for a membership, there are coops that don't charge memberships you can order bulk items from online). We eat a lot of oatmeal, so I buy it in 50 lb. bags. I also buy dried beans (which are way cheaper than canned) and rice in 25 lb. bags, generally the larger the amount you buy at a time the less it costs per pound. You just have to know how to store it properly, so it's protected from bugs and mice. I always check the price per pound, ounce, or unit to make sure I'm getting the best price possible. I also garden, it can be a lot of work, but everything I grow costs a fraction of what I would pay for it in the store, and it just tastes better.

We switched from Verizon to Mint! Now each phone bill is only $15 per month, and there's no difference in service!

Something else I’ll add is to utilize your library card (at least for people in the US). Apart from saving money by renting books instead of buying them, library cards also save you money is so many ways. With my library card, I get access to hoopla which has movies and tv shows and new music for free. I also get so many online classes for free, high school diploma for free, access to museums for free, even tax filing help for free! Highly recommend!!

I found out my library has free Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, news subscriptions, Rosetta Stone and more recently! I’m so happy I can save a lot of money now to educate myself. ☺️

Libraries in America sound amazing! I work at a library in the UK and they are totally underused and underappreciated. I am an avid reader and save so much money by borrowing library books as opposed to buying them.

We switched from Trader Joe's/Walmart to Aldi. They just opened in Arizona and wow we are super impressed! Nice modern stores, great staff and the prices are amazing! We are saving a ton! 😊 I think a good tip long term is to live below your means all the time. So, when times like this happen, you can get through it fine. Don't ever max out on a mortgage, car etc because when inflation hits, you will be hit hard. I just can't do a menstrual cup. Nope lol I agree, eating at home saves a lot of money. Eating out is expensive, unhealthy alot of the time plus tips. I haven't really shopped new for clothes in years. I love thrifting and using Thredup. It's really the little things that add up to big money savings!

I’m a dedicated Aldi shopper! My boyfriend was blown away by how much cheaper things are there. We still hit some regional stores for things they don’t have, but it’s a game changer 👍🏼

Meal prepping my lunches and snacks and beverages for work! I work night shift so a lot of nurses tend to order food in and that adds up I car pool with a go worker once a week to work! We take turns and alternate what days we drive- we live about 8/10 mins away Buying generic brand groceries ! Trying to use up all the food in the pantry before buying groceries Cooking more meals at home during the week

We: 1) spend cash when we can. 2) eat at home - 3) I shop about 75% of my clothes at thrift stores/yard sales & consignment shops. Other wise only a few brand new items (usually on sale) or since I can sew, I make some tops/PJs & dresses to fill in my wardrobe. 4) use credit cards for onlt large purchases or travel. Then use the points earned to get gift cards. 5) reuse & recycle items to save $ and make something else for us to use.

I love and use most of these ways to save :) One that I would like to add is to use a bike. I live on the country side and I only use my car about twice a week when I go grocery shopping or to visit family. I use my bike when going to work or anywhere that’s less than a 40 minute bike ride away. It saves on: gas money, car repairs (bikes are cheap to repair) & gym memberships. It also makes me healthier and that’s a money saver in the long term 😊

I save by not having a prime account. Then when I need something I ask myself if I can get it on EBay. Or I just add the item to my Amazon cart until I need some other things to bump me up to the free shipping.

Love the menstrual cup & period panty combo 👌❤️To save money for my graduation trip, I stopped wearing/buying all makeup & excess beauty products. It was a hard transition at first, but I ended up saving about $500 in 6 months just from not buying beauty products. I never went back. I only wear makeup on very special occasions, and keep it super minimal. My skin has been so much better! My confidence has also risen, & I no longer have to fuss with my makeup to get ready which imo is a huge waste of time. No offense to make-up lovers! Pink tax is real though, & I'm over paying for it in time & money just to feel like I'm putting in a mask to look pretty!

@@spirituallysafe I hear you! It took me three tries to find the right cup (I use the small Bloody Buddy cup). They're definitely not for every person/situation, but part of their appeal is that you can go 8-12 hours without emptying so no more awkward changes at work/ in the community. I think that's great not having to think about your period every couple hours when you're trying to focus. Worried about leaks? The period panties are a perfect back up plan.

If your work schedule allows, I like to look at options for flexing to take advantage of a lunch out vs a dinner. Often the costs are much lower and the quality the same. We have a theatre that also does a weekday matinee, and with some prior planning, taking some time mid-week can save some money, reduce the crowds, and allow a feeling of getting out and 'splurging' a bit, for less.

Hey Ashlynne, these are some great tips!😊 I discovered Aldi not too long ago because a new one was built in my area. I also have been using a menstrual cup for a few years now. It was hard to figure out at first, but now that I have it down I love that I can go about my day without worrying about it. You're right, it's definitely great for traveling!

I have a similar rule for waiting to buy an item, but it’s because I try to shop secondhand as much as possible. So, something I’ll do is making a list and look for it on a secondhand store. If I’m waiting a while for the item to show up and is not there, I’ll go online to eBay, Craiglist, or Poshmark and shop for the item used. 😊

Idk if these are unusual per say, but when my husband and I have a lot of laundry to do, we’ll go do it at my grandmas house (she lives really close) and it saves us over ten bucks every time. Also, I work in nice restaurants so they feed us a legit dinner every night (five nights a week!), and I’ll eat half (I’m usually full at that point) and I’ll save the other half for lunch the next day. The grocery bill drops and gets even lower because we meal plan. We have switched stores like you mentioned. Thank you for awesome content as always!! ✨🤍

@@eviozyra6300 She literally tells me to come do it..there’s specific times it’s done because it costs less. She lives five minutes away. Normally I walk but when I’ve got three hampers full, that’s not really an option. Besides, doing that drive on one day is not going to drain my tank or cost more than the multiple loads if I did them here. Don’t worry, it saves a lot of money, that’s why I shared 🤷‍♀️🥴 I’ll pass along your concerns.

Movie theaters rely on concession sales to survive. Studios take as much as 70% of the ticket sales. While the high costs are frustrating for everyone- they are a necessary evil. Theaters often have discount dates and other ways to make the process more affordable. It’s very much like a waitress salary and them relying on tips. You wouldn’t suggest that we don’t tip a waiter. Obviously bigger corporate theaters wouldn’t be as affected by a couple snacks being snuck in but locally owned smaller chains are definitely affected.

Going through your inbox regularly can also help you catch hidden subscriptions! Sometimes I sign up for subscriptions to save money on a one-time gift or purchase and seeing those emails in my inbox reminds me to cancel my subscription. (I did this recently with Dr. Squatch, I used a coupon and bundled for the subscription to get about 50% off my order and probably would have otherwise forgotten to cancel it if I didn’t check my inbox!)

I make my own veggie broth from steamed veggies. I use It to cook rice, fish, soup base etc. I buy meat & fish on sale close to expiry date. I take Salmon omega 3 fatty acids for my skin instead of expensive creams.

I love my menstrual cup! I've been using one since 2016 and I'll never go back. My money saving tips is to line dry clothing and bedding as much as possible. It preserves your clothing, you'll have that amazing sundried smell in the summertime, not to mention a simple drying rack at home saves a TON of energy. Stats show that a single person line drying saves $180/year and a family that does 5 loads per week saves $280/year plus. Over the course of 5 - 10 years... that's a huge savings!

It’s a bit of trial and error, admittedly. In general, the national chains Walmart, Costco, BJ’s, and Aldi are budget; Target, Trader Joe’s a little higher; traditional grocery stores like Giant, Safeway, Kroger, and Publix are more expensive; and organic grocery stores like Whole Foods and Mom’s Organic Market are most expensive.

Amen to the menstrual cup! I've been using one for over 3 years now and have never once missed the pads. I didn't know that I was allergic to them and suffered from severe infections for years, didn't know where they were coming from. Since I've switched to the cup I've not had a single infection and am so glad I found that out

If you shop Aldi be vigilant in reading your labels. I found an enormous amount of sugar and fat content in their products. Especially the dairy. Not worth the trade off. Healthy, nutritious food is worth the cost. Cheaper is not always better!

Have you tried reusable sanitary pads? I've been using them for years and they have saved me so much money, and stopped a lot of plastic waste, too!

I owned mine for about 4 years before I was able to insert it comfortably. I’d try every several months or so and it always hurt and was frustrating. When I finally determined to sort it out, some coconut oil and trying other positions (like hands and knees on my bathroom floor) besides sitting on the toilet like the package said did the trick. Was a lil funky but I felt so confident when I succeeded! After it started working out, I was able to insert it and remove it easy as can be and I’ll never look back. That being said, no shade of it’s really not working out for you. Cloth pads are another a great reusable option to buy less disposable pads. Messier than cups, but easier and helpful.

Maybe it's a European thing, but you can use your bike or public transportation instead of driving everywhere. By biking it's also healthier.

It is a European thing. The US is huge and everything is so far apart. There are very few walkable cities and public transportation is horrible. People ride bikes for pleasure, sure, but not for everyday errands.

Another thing is that you menstruate and don’t want to use a cup, try using reusable pads or underwear. You can wash them with your regular laundry (just soak them a little before) I can’t use the cup, but reusable pads have saved me some money 😊

SMH, these videos are such bate videos. And provide little to no actual solution. The only solution is to make more money. For companies and work places to adjust their employees pay based on the rising cost of living. There are plenty of people who budgeted as low as they could to start and are no longer making ends meet. Because it’s out of the hands of the people. This video was EXTREMELY tone deaf.

I have to agree with you. Ashlynne, I love your minimalism and decluttering videos, but I find your money-saving videos leave much to be desired for the average person. Most of the ideas in this video are for people who are still living comfortably even despite this inflation, meaning higher wage earners. That's fine, but best to specify that instead of making it sound like these tips are applicable to everyone. This video should be titled "how to save on unnecessary luxuries if you're a high wage earner (with rising inflation)." Most average Americans are not going out to eat EVERY WEEK (if at all), going to movie theaters, traveling, etc. More and more people can't even afford basic necessities. Average Joes and Janes out there, check out Prepper Princess on KZbin. She's a high-key beast when it comes to saving money, and ANYONE can implement her suggestions, including low income, seniors, disabled, etc. She's the reason I learned to save, invest, and make my life work after I became disabled.
