No one's talking about how brilliant this is. It comments on how we judge people's worth based off of how well they adhere to social conventions instead of how good of people they are. In this case, the mother, who doesn't give a shit about how this public debacle will affect her psychologically, and also who demonizes her daughter for being herself (which is a badass feminist ICON) is not really a good person.
