Ash - A Life Less Ordinary (Official Video)

Now with the addition of guitarist Charlotte Hatherley, poached from London outfit Nightnurse, Ash released ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ in October 1997. Recorded for the Danny Boyle film of the same title, and produced by Arthur Baker, ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ was Ash’s third Top 10 single in a row.
The video includes clips from the film featuring Cameron Diaz and Ewan McGregor and was directed by Hammer & Tongs (Blur - Coffee & TV, Sugergrass - Pumping on Your Stereo). Drummer Rick McMurray was taken ill with bronchitis during the filming of the video and replaced by a crew member for the latter parts.
The lyrics for ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ were inspired by the Robert Graves book ‘White Goddess’, and the track appeared on the US release of the band’s second full length album ‘Nu-clear Sounds’ in 1999.

Ash have announced the release of Teenage Wildlife: 25 Years of Ash released on 14th February through BMG and available in limited quantities with a special lenticular sleeve both on vinyl and CD. Teenage Wildlife traces the band’s recording career from exuberant debut Jack Names The Planets through to the likes of Buzzkill from 2018’s top twenty album Islands whilst also including a brand new offering Darkest Hour Of The Night alongside thirteen Top 40 singles such as Girl From Mars, Goldfinger, Oh Yeah amid an array of the band’s recorded history.

Just said the exact same mate, Ash truly deserved to be massive. At a time when it seemed there was a great new band every week, a lot of 'britpop' was very similar. Ash though, crafted perfect pop tunes with their own vibe, like garbage. Deserved greatness.

I read that Charlotte was 17 when she joined the band (and appeared in this video). And I was thinking, "that's crazy, why hire such a young guitarist?". Then I read Tim Wheeler was only 19 in this video😂 So he was 17 himself when the first album was released. Incredible how they had so much success, so young
