Downsizing engines, using lower cc engines with higher power rating has become a trend these days. Best example is the one you've mentioned about Ashok Leyland 4 cylinder A series engine. Force monobus with 9ton GWV uses the same 2.6 engine as Tempo traveller, BS6 eicher light & medium truck/starline vans use 2.0L 3 cylinder engine. On paper specs are good with higher numbers of power and torque, under operating conditions such engines tend to be more stressed. Expert mechanics say this affects the longterm reliability.

Sir cornering stability will be higher in monocoque Volvo, Scania and Merc multiaxle busses. This will reduce lack of premium ride for long distance trip. Propeller shaft and 4cylinder engine vibration. Only benefit will be budget friendly operation more than Safety and Comfort😊

I feel it is already there here AL TATA or Eicher as lorry what is so great about. What about suspension is it air suspension or same old leaf spring . World wide front engine buses are not used for long distance travel. Semi forward buses are more popular in US ( engine in the front). Now that roads are good for intercity travel Europe made buses are the best choice. As far as TN govt buses they will never go for other brands. It’s my opinion. !

They scrapped the multiaxle bus project, seems like they started selling chassis, the cost of chassis comes around 45 to 50 lakhs for govt and additional 15 to 18 lakhs for body building, 60 to 65 lakhs la Multi axle bus..it's economical and will be profitable.

Sir Ashok Leyland did the wrong thing......... This engine is not ideal for multi axle configurations............ 500HP and 1400nm torque is needed. But 900 nm torque is not sufficient......... 1400nm torque will be suitable to indian roads.........
@JohnVictorIASteacher6 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinion Koushik. The present engine is of course underpowered. However, 1500 NM/500 hp is too high and unnecessary for Indian conditions. 350hp/1200 nm would be ideal for Premium inter City operations in Indian conditions- A 1200 Nm torque engine will provide sufficient pickup, higher cruising speed and better comfort. It will also return a decent mileage. The present European brands like Volvo also have an engine rating of around 350hp/1200 nm only.
@balajik82326 ай бұрын
In addition to this, rear engine and dynamic chassis control is required for better drivability and riding comfort. Unfortunately, R&D cost is higher than returns. Most of the STC would buy leaf springs only.

As a patriot, I have supported Indian automobile brands in the heavy vehicle industry. In my earlier videos, I have analysed various issues and shortcomings of Foreign brands which have affected the Indian automobile industry and Indian people. I have highlighted the contribution of brands like Tata, Ashok Leyland and Eicher. At the same time, I'm not against foreign products which are of good quality and suited to the Indian market. I don't have vested interests and I have never supported any particular firm. I have discussed more about Ashok Leyland since they are a major player in the bus and truck industry. The analysis pertains to the particular product like Luxury bus, Passenger bus etc. Apart from road Heavy vehicles, I have discussed about railways/Trains also Matured, unbiased Persons having holistic knowledge of automobiles know my credentials very well.
