Hi, peoples! Hope you guys enjoy this cover of Ashokan Farewell! We wanted to try a combined vocal/violin version of this song, the haunting melody used in Ken Burns' Civil War documentary. Thanks also to Grian MacGregor and Jay Ungar for writing this wonderful piece.

My heart bleeds for a place I have never been I long to see again those there whom I have never met Tears run from my eyes with the memories shared in a song of farewell And a voice so warm I hold it dear. Music speaks in deep felt words of many colors And the violin cries as no man can In strains of deep red longing and blue, blue joy For moments shared of hearts and minds blended To the single purpose Of speaking that language to utter perfection All I can ever see are the runes on the sheet All I can ever hear is second hand to the the moment of creation All I can do is sit in silence As those who were there spin the spell they wove for me to be enchanted

The sun is sinking low in the sky above Ashokan. The pines and the willows know soon we will part. There’s a whisper in the wind of promises unspoken, And a love that will always remain in my heart. My thoughts will return to the sound of your laughter, The magic of moving as one, And a time we’ll remember long ever after The moonlight and music and dancing are done. Will we climb the hills once more? Will we walk the woods together? Will I feel you holding me close once again? Will every song we’ve sung stay with us forever? Will you dance in my dreams or my arms until then? Under the moon the mountains lie sleeping Over the lake the stars shine. They wonder if you and I will be keeping The magic and music, or leave them behind.

Well done Seán on this magnificent interpretation of this beautiful melody. I really enjoyed it. The best compliment that I can give Seán is that he sings like the Irish tenor Frank Patterson. Full marks also to the outstanding accompanying musicians.

Have now found many more of your uploads. Shenandoah and Amazing Grace are absolutely fantastic. Your father also deserves much praise on the piano. One can just watch his motions and see the feeling he's putting into it. You two go together so well. Especially interesting to see numbers done both before and after your voice change. Both great.

I really enjoyed this and many other pieces that I found here, as I only discovered Sean yesterday and have covered ten years of his musical evolution in an evening. The videos are so well produced, with a vibrant, interesting background as opposed to so many that are sterile and dull. I do think that if you are going to be a serious singer at an early age, then having an in house accompanist as talented as Scott is a priceless asset. He deserves a great deal of recognition as does the venerable Baldwin piano which has a wonderful sound that seems to encompass all the music that it has made in its time. I hope to hear many more great renditions including more classical pieces if possible. Sincere regards.

Wonderful rendition of this hauntingly beautiful song. I also remember hearing it often while watching "The Civil War", Ken Burns' masterful documentary on PBS. I wondered if there were lyrics to it. Sean sings it with great feeling. The violin and piano accompaniment is perfect. Thanks for uploading, and sharing your great talent with us.

Notice to Everyone: Free downloads are now available for (almost) all of my songs! I went back into the time capsule that is our music room and pulled out the original master files for everything and converted them all to WAV files for use as downloads. Keep in mind that WAV files are the uncompressed, lossless sound files, meaning you'll get the original sound of the songs (rather than the compressed, downsampled versions that you hear on KZbin). I am putting this out there as part of the launch of my website, seanholshouser.com. As such, all downloads can be found through Adfly links at www.seanholshouser.com/free-downloads.html. The links are ordered based on video view counts, if that makes any more sense; basically, the more popular the video is, the higher on the list it is. You can also find the audio recordings for two unreleased tracks there, "To The Sky" and "Into the West" (done solo by my mother, Eileen Holshouser). Why are we using those terribly ad-filled Adfly links, you may ask? Well, you must understand that we are not a rich family; it costs a lot of money (as well as time) to make these videos and recordings, and a few cents earned from a few ads being played never hurt anyone, right? You don't have to pay anything; just click the big yellow "Continue" button on the top right after waiting a few seconds; DON'T click anywhere else. Well, hopefully that explains everything; more music will be coming within the next couple of weeks, as well. More Simon and Garfunkel, anyone? :) - Sean

A beautiful rendition. I know Ashokan farewell as an instrumental piece, is this the accompanying lyric text? or is it your own composition? I do have one note of critique; though it's more of an opinion. I think this piece would have been better as a harmony, and the young lad accompanied by a lass as a backing vocal. His voice is a tad too deep to do the instrumental harmony proper justice. But that really is just my opinion. Beyond that, a sterling performance by all 3, my congratulations.

Very very good. If I had only one recommendation for you, as lead singer, nothing critical about your performance but think about your appearance. If you aspire to greatness I would think you could roll em over better with some more thoughtful garments. Move, take a few steps, look down at something in your hands, a small framed picture maybe, film some cuts looking out over a river or campfire blazing in the woods at night or whatever for visual interest. I know that's not what you guys were trying to do but it would really punch up the video. Damn, that sounds really shallow, I know. Sorry. No offense intended, truly. I wish you all the best with your remarkably talented career.

You don't understand.this is not about love lost. It is about love still longing on a time when that love will be lost again. Should we kill eachother agan, yes we shall. will we ever learn. Maybe, but only if we don't repeat the mistakes of the past. We are about to repeat those mistakes again. Next Novermeber! remember!! the past!! a past I believe we may repeat. Brother against Brother. Blood for blood. Our enimies will desend apon us and we will be killing eachother when that happens. What do you think our government will do when we are facing ulltimant doom. We will drop every thing we got because we are all a bunch of fucking animals that are running this world. May God forgive us then. Because I don't belive I will :(
