The Ashokan Rail Trail is a shuttered rail line that followed the coast of the Ashokan Reservoir and has been turned into a 11 mile bike & hike trail. The trail was completed in 2019 at a cost of 16 million dollars. The trail itself is a compact gravel with long slight grades throughout the span. There are 3 trail heads with parking and bathrooms, portable pottys. The most senic of sections of the trail air the two end trails, the Woodstock Dike Trailhead and the Boiceville Bridge Trailhead. The trail is very long and we wanted to see it completely so we rode the entire trail with bikes. E-Bike are allowed, so I brought along my Rad Power Rover, and im glad I did. If your going to try to complete the whole 22 mile loop bring lots of water and snacks, there is no running water or beverage dispensers at the trail heads, so stock up! The Ashokan Rail Trail was magical and we will be going back to peep the changing colors of fall!
